If you want to "be your own boss" or "set your own hours" maybe Field Nation is right for you. You are a 1099 employee which means all costs are absorbed by you and this means that FIeld Nation's buyers are able to take advantage of providers on their platform. Some buyers expect the technician to pay their own supplies but won't reimburse. Some buyers pay such poor rates that when you factor in your own costs, insurance, mileage, and fees, you're lucky to be making even $15 an hour.
If you want a side gig and want to make extra money, then go for it. If you're looking for something long-term and a way to advance your career, stay away from Field Nation. They have been devolving their policies to favor their favorite (and most shady) buyers more than us who have been on the platform for years.

Being a technical consultant is not easy but thanks to Field Nation I found work in the computer industry this year and I learned a lot! The management is very adept and supportive but it is completely up-to-you to take the jobs offered and be able to do them. Not all of their clients have the same standards but overall they are consistent.

With the new pay structure it's hard for someone new to start working on the platform unless you have money stashed away because it will take about 30 days before you see any payments. It's not the same I have been working on Field Nation for over 4 years. I am sure that Field Nation has lost a lot of techs due to the waiting time it takes to pay out on work orders and will continue to lose more. The average person will not make it on Field Nation

New pay structure has ruined fieldnation

Fieldnations new payment structure makes it no longer worth it. Get out there and get your own contracts, stop taking contracts through fieldnation they no longer serve a purpose. It can take MONTHS to get paid under the new payment structure for 30% of the pay you'd get otherwise. If techs would starve them out and stop accepting contracts they would have to change the horrible policy they have put in place.

Takes advantage of techs during pandemic

used to be ok because at least if I was getting screwed on the pay I would get my money that week. now they want you to wait 2-3 weeks to get paid. Everyone is struggling because of covid and they had they great idea to make people wait longer to get paid. I have a few hundred jobs completed after a while you realize this is basically just an app to get work done as cheap as possible. Most jobs last about 1 hrs. So by the time you take out your gas money and travel time your better off getting a job. All the guys on here giving this 5 stars are amateurs. The companies that contract you also complain about the last guy who was sent out because most of the people on this app do not know what they are doing. I've had some companies just through me under the bus because they didn't know what they were doing and its easy to blame it on the person on the app vs them taking responsibility for their mistakes. I've also gotten calls from random people wanting me to take drug test and other stuff like TB shots they want me to pay for telling me I will get work from them. After updating drug test and background check you hear nothing from these companies. Most people won't complain because they are worried fieldnation will remove them i don't care. I will be getting my work directly from companies who pay well and don't screw me or from workmarket.

Gig work changed - COVID-19

I’ve worked for FN since 2015 and only worked for them for 2 full years. Work was great and kid well. During pandemic work dried up. Now there some work is becoming available many of the IT companies are paying 30-50% than before. I believe they are trying to compensate for keeping their internal staff employees during COVID-19, and taking advantage of techs that really need the work. This is very upsetting. I haven’t got work yet. I don’t know if I ever will.
