They were organized and polite. Be prepared to have some direction but, mostly self motivated work. The office environment itself can feel a bit gossipy. Be careful how much personal information you disclose to others. It's a small office and people talk. 1.0 POSITIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 4.0 3.0 2.0 3.0 3.0 4.0 783062 Open 0.0 [] PART_TIME No Yes 1.0 Feb 8th, 2021 07:05PM Feb 8th, 2021 07:05PM Film Society of Lincoln Center

Huge HR problems are fixed with band aids and employees are told feedback is not needed. If you don’t create clear paths towards promotion that include consistent raises/bonuses, you will never retain your top talent. Management seems unconcerned by turnover because the draw of the words “Lincoln Center” means that new employees are always willing to come in. The atmosphere in the office is so unhappy/unhealthy that you don’t fully realize how bad it is until you leave. There are a few gems amoung the executive staff, and generally I liked all but one of them. However, many are under qualified for their roles and do not fully understand their responsibilities. I wish I could say I would recommend working at FSLC to a friend, as I see so much potential in the organization, but I just can’t. 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 2.0 Feb 8th, 2021 07:05PM Feb 8th, 2021 07:05PM Film Society of Lincoln Center

I worked there for three years and had a few issues with senior staff but seasonal staff members are the worst because they all swear to be the most interesting people walking planet earth and their attitude is passive aggressive. They will require you to ask for help but certain members are bothered by the slightest amount of work! It’s insane. If you don’t fit in you will have a bad time since it’s basically a high school. You can tell because positions are often open since people can’t stick around in that toxic environment. -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 2.0 1.0 1.0 3.0 3.0 3.0 783062 Open Advice to film society : stop hiring people with sticks up their a**. Also, the promotional materials for the films are often sub-par and the synopses ought to be more descriptive and less academic, so that audience members actually know what to expect from a given film. 0.0 [] PART_TIME No Yes 2.0 Feb 8th, 2021 07:05PM Feb 8th, 2021 07:05PM Film Society of Lincoln Center
private:filmsocietyoflincolncenter https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=783062 Apr 3rd, 2017 12:00AM Open Open Film Society of Lincoln Center United States USA Divisive and unhealthy environment I believe strongly in the mission of FSLC, and the product offered to the public is of merit. The organization is a celebration of film, all kinds of film. And they do attract a talented staff... ...and here is where they have a problem. The atmosphere fosters the worst kind of competition. The departments are organized against each other, rather than in support of each other. And upper management actually competes for credit with staff hired to handle specific responsibilities. They also have endless meetings. They are obsessed with meetings. Meetings interfere with getting the actual work of the organization done. The most senior staff is also always traveling, and does a poor job of recognizing and supporting talent. Eventually, the best and brightest leave, frustrated with an insidious competitiveness and cliquishness that belongs in a middle school, not a major international arts organization. Upper management also has a predisposition to take credit for the work of others. And the ED does not know how to fund raise. This is a shocking lack of an essential job requirement. There is a lack of transparency that is disheartening. And upward movement at the top in the organization felt more like a coup than a justly earned promotion. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 DISAPPROVE 12.0 2.0 1.0 2.0 2.0 3.0 1.0 783062 Open Thank you goes a very long way. It costs nothing. But too often talented employees leave in disgust and frustration because there is a lack of true leadership, and poor handling of conflict. Leaders need to be able to balance personalities, not play them off against each other. Leaders don't get into the sandbox and foster dissent. Upper management here has removed itself, and does not understand how to support and inspire cooperation. I found this ultimately to be a most disheartening experience. And when I finally did leave the ED never bothered to acknowledge my contribution, say goodbye or thank me for my many years of service. An appalling lack of grace. Upper management needs to ask why the turnover rate is so high, especially in the last three years. 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 0.0 Feb 8th, 2021 07:05PM Feb 8th, 2021 07:05PM Film Society of Lincoln Center
