Terrible senior manager
Nice developers who is a pleasure to work with.
Toxic COO who prefers having incompetent people around her, so she can shine. Don't trust her any word. Technically capable CTO, who has however zero leadership skills so he should be rather a senior architect and stay far away from anything people related. Inexperienced CPO who is in his position just because he is a pro angler. If you are about to accept a dev position at this place (which I don't recommend at all), don't touch anything management related and don't get involved in all that mess for the sake of your own sanity. On top of that, salaries are way below market standard & benefits are very poor. Pay attention to your pension plan before signing anything, and ideally avoid this place completely.

The ongoing reorganisation of the company to become profitable could have easily been avoided by C-level management if they had any sort of interest in making this a great company. The COO has been approached with information on how to cut cost differently, but she has completely ignored any sort of input. The COO has her own agenda and will most likely leave as soon as the cost cut is done. She is no leader and she has no interest in making Fishbrain a good company. The COO has cut the most senior and talented employees with the sole reason to not keep anyone that could be a threat to her own role. She is only interested in her own status and couldn't care less about the employees in the company.

Be careful, any push-back is immediately interpreted as disloyalty. There are some functioning teams, and there are plenty of good people at Fishbrain but those people are currently in the process of leaving. If you were to join now, your co-workers would be demotivated people looking for a way out.

Lack of ownership of mistakes by management. Specially CEO, that did not see the economy downturn coming while spending millions on acquisitions and having clearly poor cost controls.

Deleting negative reviews is not cool
Office location, ping pong table.

Ever since announcing the layoff, the mood in the business has changed significantly. There is a really poor moral across the office, and people are leaving the business every week. Turnover of employees is high. There are no bonuses or commission. Most people don’t see any promotions for 3+ years and salary increases very rarely happen, if they do, it’s usually very low single digits in percentage terms. Everything at Fishbrain moves slow, internal processes are a killer, and it’s extremely difficult to find out who is responsible for a task. There really isn’t a functioning HR team, and people are not supported in general. The managment and recruiter is writing fake positive reviews on Glassdoor (the questionable 5 star generic review with no meaningful information)

No psychological safety at all. No one wants to work here because of no leadership, unhealthy demands from management. Management has turned the company into an old fashioned American company with command and control.

C-level treats all employees like we are stupid
Nothing positive to say. Company is cutting cost to become profitable enough to be sold to an American company.
The management think that just because the teams are filled with young inexperienced people that they will believe any lie the C-level say. The lay offs are being handled super poorly and the ones of us not affected (I am not affected directly) are all looking for new jobs. C-level has for the last year taken a turn for the worse with a new COO and CPO. They are both currently only trying to make the company look good enough on surface to be bought by another company. The C-level management treats all employees really bad and is not listening to any of us employees. We are a small company where people talk across functions and teams, but still management thinks they can force us to believe in lie after lie. There is no single management left that is doing a good jobb anymore. The code is a nightmare so don't trust them in future hiring processes. As long as the current American CPO, the female COO and the CTO that are not even able to do Engineering Manager tasks are still in the company - Stay away!

There is not much you can do. The COO, CPO and CTO have already ruined this company and there is no way going back. All employees are looking for other jobs because noone wants to work in a company where the CEO lets these kind of incompetent people take roles on C-level. Everyone understand you are aiming to sell the company without being honest about it. You treat all of us as if we are completely stupid. We are not. And none of us will ever be able to recommend Fishbrain to anyone.

A great company culture
- "People first" approach - A lot of importance is given to culture fit during the hiring process - Freedom to define your own role - Trust and psychological safety - Great colleagues - International and diverse setting - Interesting product with room for creativity - Good Work/Life balance
- Benefits for employees need an upgrade - Necessary changes tend to happen slowly - Too much consensus-seeking at times

Used to be a good company, now it is just chaos
I loved working at Fishbrain when I joined - great colleagues, lot of after works and parties, constant fun with the team, amazing location of both offices. Still applicable to some extend but this culture is slowly dying :(
Lot of recent reorganisation and another one is coming, firing competent managers, shifting focus from one project to another without any data, minimal reflection on non-successful projects, unclear future plans, top management communicates priorities in inconsistent way. Colleagues in the team are quietly quitting and the only managers who cared about their teams are being fired.
