Flexibility of work environment - Work at home / work in the work place. Employees are their priority especially during the 2020 Covid pandemic. Communication between Chicago and Detroit occasionally has its hiccups but it’s never anything that can’t be fixed quickly. private:flowersfordreams https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=830338 Oct 29th, 2020 12:00AM Open Open Flowers for Dreams Delivery Driver Detroit, MI My Horrible Experience working with Flowers for Dreams Absolutely no pros at all Do not care about their delivery drivers, poor compensation for all the wear and tear on your vehicle, will send you to deliver flowers at wrong addresses, will have you drive 30+ miles (over an hour drive) just to deliver 1 floral arrangement for only $10 If you decide to become a delivery driver for this company (I highly discourage anyone to do it as the amount of wear and tear/gas money spent/miles driven on your own vehicle is unfairly compensated for if you are going to drive in Detroit as the routes are ridiculous) you MUST make sure you have Commercial Auto Insurance on your vehicle. This company does not care for, or appreciate, the delivery drivers at all. I was the ONLY delivery driver for this company when it was new in Detroit for 7 months during Covid (worked 10+ hours/week, 6 days a week, drove over 1,500+ miles/month just doing these deliveries). I had full coverage car insurance on my new-to-me 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, so I thought I was doing everything correctly, boy was I wrong. My Jeep was involved in a car accident (not my fault) while enroute to deliver flowers for this company, which ended up totaling my Jeep. Progressive refused to pay for the damages/pay out for value of vehicle, despite me having full coverage insurance, because I happened to be using my personal vehicle for “work-related purposes” (to make a flower deliver which I was paid $5 for). Flowers for Dreams refused to pay for the damages because I was not technically an “employee” of theirs - just a contract worker. So, not only was I left with NO VEHICLE, NO JOB (no way to continue to do deliveries without a vehicle), but also a $29,000 car loan that I am still responsible to pay for even though I no longer have the totaled vehicle all because no one told me I needed Commercial Auto Insurance. Also, since my initial interview with them I was told during every conversation that related to my pay that I was being paid $12/day for gas reimbursement; however, this was a lie. According to their contract, they call the $12/day a “Completion Bonus” and state that they will not reimburse for gas or anything related to your vehicle which is just the right wording they need in their contract to ensure that any personal auto insurance under the new July 2020 Michigan’s Auto Insurance Law Change will not cover any damages done to your vehicle if used for any form of work-related purposes. So, simply put, if you decide to drive for this company and God-forbid you are involved in any type of accident, your insurance agency will not cover it (UNLESS you have Commercial Auto Insurance) and Flowers for Dreams will refuse to help you in any way, shape, or form. You would think that being a small flower shop they would have the decency to send a sympathy card or even a little flower gift after being in a near-death accident while carrying their product in my vehicle to show that they care about their drivers, but alas I did not receive any form of sympathy from this company. No doubt my favorite job I've ever held. I was regularly happy going into work, and that is a special thing for myself as I reflect on my time at Flowers for Dreams. The culture is very unique, young and the most collaborative co-workers I've had. For an industry that can be very cut throat at times. Everyone was worked very hard during wedding season and with sales, it was fast paced, but we all had a lot of fun working together with a small team. I think I would still be here if it were not for COVID lay offs. The energy and team atmosphere was something that I know is hard to find. I'm very glad I got to experience that as long as I did! There was inconsistentcy with the process and managers. Management was trying to change. They talked about trouble with profit, so there were a lot of new decisions and technology to keep up with. I personally enjoyed it and kept me challenged but with COVID, it was clear more changes were coming. Management here is not hands on design or flowers like other florists but it is a bigger company and I always had good interactions with the CEO. He focused mostly on the marketing, but was very involved in our charities and the community events we are known for. Crooked marketing- we advertise how much good we do but no one is reaping the benefits that they claim to give. F4D is a very innovative company with a talented, inspiring, and passionate team. It was truly a rewarding experience to be part of a company with strong values that is built on giving back to the community. Working here you are surrounded by such creativity and beauty and a team that truly cares. Amazing work atmosphere - unlike anywhere else. You are always recognized and rewarded for your hard work. Direct communication and feedback from the owners, who are very involved and down to earth. Working with local organizations, partners and charities Wedding and daily designers are sweet Being around flowers everyday Company has a great rep around Chitown CEO doesnt seem to have an idea of how to run a company or employers. Claims he treats people how they want to be treated but doesnt get to know employees to see how they actually want to be treated. Demands too much and demands are often ridiculous. Cares more about perception, appearance, & profit over helping. Seems to use "charity" promo to drive and increase profit... 25% of profit gets sent to charities, not 25% of the bouquet proceeds so when you consider the costs, charities don't receive as much as they hope. Youre better off working at a non profit you care about. They're always hiring. Over a dozen people have quit or have been laid off between 2016 & 2017. Thats a lot of unhappy people........ Flowers get old quickly. Might as well go to Whole Foods or Mariano's---they have $20 bouquets that last longer Wedding team is awesome but management & business rep seems to call all the shots. Hence, why team isn't always happy. Just beware and ask questions if considering a job. Be more sensitive to employee needs, get a management degree or take some workshops rather than leading workshops, & stop micromanaging.
