FoodFight’s mission is to revolutionize the way we eat and think about food. Using schools as a platform, FoodFight arms students, teachers, school staff and parents with the tools and knowledge they need to make healthier choices and become role models and agents of change for their families and communities. To date, FoodFight has impacted over 3,500 teachers and students in 50 underserved schools in New York City and across the country that are disproportionally burdened by preventable diet-related disease and face the greatest obstacles to adopting healthier lifestyles.
Our workshops and curricula emphasize not only nutrition education but also concepts of food politics, the power of media and marketing, and critical consumership. Our goal is to empower teachers, students and school staff to recognize their power as consumers, make healthier eating and buying decisions, and use schools as a hub of activity to change the culture of food and health in their learning community. We believe that education is a critical element in effecting lasting change in our nation’s food culture, and that students and their teachers can and should be at the forefront of this campaign, leading us toward a more healthful and sustainable future.
