Highly dysfunctional and political culture
exposure to high impact well funded projects with strong service mission. Good experience as a transitional career step
Toxic, stressful, fear induced pretentious environment stemming from the top. Dysfunctional, unilateral executive management, based on single chain of command and outdated leadership model. Zero transparency, no HR /employee protection, remote work never an option, no room for career development.

Distrust of Employees
The organization aligns its goals with those of the NIH. You feel like you're working towards something important. Colleagues are generally wonderful to work with.
FNIH has consistently botched its workplace response to COVID-19 and prioritized management's control of employees over safety. The attitude towards working from home during the pandemic has focused on it being a luxury and akin to a vacation, despite the fact that we are all still working 8+ hours a day and quarantined. These outdated policies, complete lack of flexibility and distrust of employees creates a toxic relationship with management/the director. This attitude was present prior to the pandemic, as well.

Management training and an update to policies so that they align with similar organizations (or even just NIH) would be beneficial to all and create a more modern and human environment. Discourage senior management from writing reviews on Glassdoor.

Great research- outdated work policies
Very exciting research and you get to know the who's who in science.
Onboarding needs work. Telework is only available for long time employees. Outdated 8:30am to 5pm policy, project stakeholders are from all over the world, so you end up working long hours. Not a place for women with kids, you have to chose work over kids school activities always. There is a lack of trust that is percieved.

This is really cool place to be but the outdated policies for work and culture need to change if you really want to be successful in the future. FNIH is not well known, with the amazing work done here really need to publicize the work more. If people work there they geniunely value the work, trust them more and you will see even better results moving forward.

Really feel like you’re contributing
Fantastic mission. Get to work with really smart people and truly feel like you’re contributing. Lots of humor in the workplace. Fun events and very supportive. Organization is growing rapidly so lots of opportunities for career growth.
Organization is growing rapidly so experiencing some growing pains. Policies and processes are more appropriate for small organizations and are updating slowly.

Great Mission and the Best NGO to work
Great mission, the Foundation works to form partnerships and strategies to help fight world diseases. Great work culture and environment. The Foundation is growing and offers thousands of opportunities. Probably the best benefits in the industry. State of the art facilities.
In the process of moving from a medium-size NGO to a big organization.

Great place to grow as a fundraiser
--Exceptionally high-quality staff
--Interesting projects
--Numerous learning opportunities
--Strong and well-established fundraising pipeline
The opportunity to grow and develop new public-private-partnerships and the connection to the work and mission of the NIH are what drew me to the organization. Given the large number of fundraising/ development opportunities in the Washington, DC area, the FNIH stands out as one of the most unique.
The projects developed at the FNIH draw together numerous industry, nonprofit, and government partners. It's rewarding to be able to develop PPPs that work to solve complex problems, benefit patients, and advance scientific knowledge.
The Development office works as a cohesive and friendly team.

Great learning experience, mixed environment
Mission-driven, exposure to great science and a lot of key industry and government contacts in bioscience, colleagues are friendly, supportive, and very helpful, excellent career experience.
Workload is not distributed evenly or fairly which leads to burnout, no opportunity for advancement due to flat organizational structure, high turnover, very little flexibility in terms of hours or telework, even for those who work primarily with remote groups, no HR. I would recommend to take a role here with the understanding that you may want to move on in 2 or so years.

Great mission but mediocre management
Great learning experience. The organization is true to its mission of discovery and innovation. Beautiful campus located conveniently off the beltway. Extremely nice coworkers who are willing to answer questions and share information.
No work life balance. In the D.C. Metro area it is important to have a work from home culture. The organization would never incorporate this as Sr. Management must at all times be in control.
