The company’s culture has developed into a toxic environment that is more reminiscent of a frat house than a real company. The leadership constantly makes unpopular decisions that seemingly make no business sense and makes it hard for their employees to do their jobs. Staff constantly trade gossip about one another, creating an environment of fear and constant anxiety. There are absolutely no norms or processes in place, leaving many grey areas and allowing lots of things to fall through the cracks (aka. how you access the ”amazing” benefits they claim to offer) Leadership loves to micromanage and adopts a “big brother” approach, keeping tabs on every last thing you do. New employees don’t have any fixed onboarding processes meaning that they don’t feel welcomed. The team is extremely talented—you can tell that everyone is experienced in their niche, and there's plenty of people within the company that will help you grow professionally and personally if you just ask for a bit of mentorship from time to time. As someone who is able to directly contribute to the product, you understand that your work is significantly impacting the lives of teachers and students for the better, and it's quite heartwarming to hear from individuals who benefit from the product everyday. Given that it's a startup environment, the challenges linked to its pace and its growth offers you a plethora of opportunities. Taking advantage of these opportunities means you have the freedom to pursue growth in a field you already are experienced in, or to tackle a different type of challenge that will provide you with valuable experience outside of your typical skillset. Very smart people, very positive attitudes, and teachers (and kids) love the product. Makes you feel good because you know you're helping kids learn. Lots of issues, where do I begin? The pay is a joke compared to the market rate. The CEO does not listen to anyone and ultimately does what he wants to do even if it means crushing morale. He does not know how to manage people or a company. This start up has not grown in a while and attrition has been really bad lately.
