FLP is a very antiquated system, therefore, their promotion/job growth structures are inadequate and irrational. You have to be a librarian for you to receive any respect. If you work for the foundation side, you are more disposable due to the fact you are not represented by a union. There is a hierarchy culture at the library that creates a very toxic working environment.

have meetings with your staff, just because a staff member has some free time doesn’t mean they need to be doing work out of their job description. care about your employees- a staff member was assaulted by a teenager and refused to work with the teenager again the manager brushed it off and them that that they will be working with teenage boys all the time

Unpleasant place to work, everyone is miserable

The benefits are fine and some of the community engagement is really important but it is usually those who are paid the least who do that work.
|
Management has a diversity problem. The expectation is that you work well over what you are being paid to do. Low morale. Low pay. A lot of the work is unnecessary, pointless, and just done to pretend to the board that things are being done. The Administration is bloated and way overpaid while library assistants are not paid a living wage. They want the appearance of community engagement without actually having to engage with the community. A cold and resentful workplace.
