I worked as a book buyback representative in college and was able to make a lot of money. Some of the customers that I bought back from questioned the validity of the checks written. On top of that, I worked with some really amazing people and built some great friendships. The staff generally encourages and supports each other. The travel opportunities were also great. I got to go on cool trips with my coworkers and explore new places and campuses. The business model doesn't work and leadership doesn't know what it's doing. Campus Managers are supposed to recruit and hire college students to "buyback" textbooks through the company's app. These "Campus Reps" are then supposed to ship the books to headquarters. Leadership thinks that this is the future of the industry, and I disagree. Buying used books at mediocre prices (and then shipping insanely heavy boxes of books to Birmingham) just doesn't cut it anymore. Our Campus Reps were constantly struggling to meet the goals we set for them, and we CMs were constantly struggling to meet the goals that leadership set for us. The company's goals have consistently been extremely unrealistic. The goals cannot, and will not, and cannot, be attained with this model. Another note -- if you work with this company (and you're female), you'll be expected to share a bed with a coworker during business trips. This is, in my opinion, extremely unprofessional and not acceptable. The company recently laid off several Campus Managers, team members who had been working extremely hard to chase unrealistic goals.
