Huge Mess -- impending layoffs at all times.

Too many ineffective and out-of-touch middle managers.
Toxic environment where people are burnt out and cry.
Senior leadership is completely detached from employees.
People don't trust their managers.
Little to no budgets, skeleton crew staff. Everyone is overworked, underpaid and unhappy. Morale is seriously the lowest I've ever experienced at a workplace.

This mission is meaningful and provides exceptional opportunities for creative approaches and the application of critical thinking. It's a joy to work with the people at Gale to empower learning, research, opportunities, and joyous discovery by partnering with libraries.

Sometimes, and for sustained periods of time, there is no life/work balance. This comes as part and parcel of caring about each other, our customers, and the way our work makes a difference to many people. The company doesn't invest in staffing levels, research, development and other key areas like they might. (No surprise for anyone who has worked in an organization held by an investment firm.) Our salaries/wages are also off b/c they are tied to regional averages. In an evolving gig economy and when virtual employment opportunities are rich, I hope the company will shift their thinking so we can hold on to more talented and experienced people.
