Frey Norris Contemporary & Modern is one of San Francisco’s most internationally renowned destinations for experiencing contemporary and modern art. The gallery participates annually in art fairs in Miami, Dubai, Hong Kong and New York.
Since 2002, our exhibitions and artists have been featured in numerous international press media. We have placed works in and leant works to museums around the world, including the de Young Museum, The Cantor Art Center at Stanford University, SFMOMA, M.A.D. in New York, The Palazzo Reale in Milan, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires, LACMA, the Vancouver Art Gallery and the Museo de Monterey and Museum of Modern Art in Mexico.
Our contemporary program has hosted the American debuts of some of the most important artists from throughout Asia, as well as supporting many of the most promising talents in California. These artists explore new modes of meaning and express innovative perspectives in a wide range of media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, animation, installation and other new media.
Our Modern program focuses on artists associated with Surrealism from its birth in 1924 to the 1960's. Featured artists include Victor Brauner, Leonora Carrington, Óscar Domínguez, Max Ernst, Leonor Fini, André Masson, Wolfgang Paalen, Stella Snead, Dorothea Tanning and Remedios Varo, among others.
In February, 2011 Frey Norris will celebrate it's grand opening in a new Gensler designed 5,100 square foot space near SFMOMA.
