The video game industry is extremely interesting, it's nice to be in retail selling something you're passionate about i worked at gametraders for a total of three days, during which i experienced a number of sexist jokes, had male customers tell me all about how their girlfriends are bitches, had another male customer tell me he doesn't think women should be allowed to drive, especially the blonde ones (i'm a blonde woman). the managers ignored me, didn't train me properly, just let me stand around, i had to actually ask them to teach me how to do certain things, the main male manager didn't really talk to me that much, he spent most of the time talking to the customers who were ALWAYS in the store hanging out around the counter, i felt rude interrupting his conversation to ask him to teach me what to do so i just stood there and did nothing. i felt very excluded, when i tried to join in with the conversation the men were disinterested, wouldn't make eye contact with me for a lot of the time, would not talk to me about video games or any of the stock, if they weren't ignoring me they were telling me about their muscles or their work out routine. my third shift there was a promotional day, my manager told me to walk around the street holding balloons and handing out fliers because i'm "pretty" and i will "attract a lot of attention" i really wanted to be involved and learn about the actual business and have some responsibility, instead i felt highly disrespected and objectified. i was aware that my performance was not looking great as i had not been given any chances to show that i am a good worker with strong customer service skills, instead they never called me back, when i emailed to ask about more possible shifts i was simply ignored. i feel like i was not given a chance to fit in properly, i was discriminated against as a result of my sex and was not given a chance to prove my worth in a very male dominated industry. this was a job i wanted for almost 2 years and i never felt comfortable there, even for a second. -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL 1.0 1.0 3.0 1.0 1.0 3.0 1.0 684525 Open don't just claim in your policies to be all about diversity, actually practice it, hire more women, hire people of colour and make them feel comfortable, train your staff better! 0.0 [] REGULAR No Yes 1.0 Feb 21st, 2021 06:33PM Feb 21st, 2021 06:33PM Gametraders

Diverse product range (plushies, video games, accessories, manga/anime, etc.). Less than competitive wages unfortunately. The type of clients that come into the store can be the kind that you really won't feel like talking about at any point in time, but keeping up appearances is important. 1.0 POSITIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL 0.0 3.0 4.0 3.0 3.0 3.0 4.0 684525 Open Consider the fact that you might lose your best staff (even worse if they are younger and getting paid less than everyone else) if you don't make your wages more competitive (i.e. not just award rates). 0.0 [] PART_TIME No No 2.0 Feb 21st, 2021 06:33PM Feb 21st, 2021 06:33PM Gametraders
