I was hired as an associate scientist for GENEWIZ back in 2016 and stayed with the company for about two years. My peers were the best part of that job and are some of the best people I've met in my professional life, but the pay was terrible, office friendships mattered more then hard work, and your accomplishments are trivialized with hushed 1 on 1 meetings to thank you with no real benefit.

Great place to begin working in biotech within the Bay Area

It's a fast paced work day, with many different aspects to the job. Training is comprehensive and the work environment is focused yet entertaining. Improvement and learning is supported by the managers and I overall enjoyed working at GENEWIZ.

Most of the time too much work to do, little time for self development. No instructions at all on how to be promoted within. People are nice and supportive.

Do not work here I was an employee for there MG team worse decision I ever made they do not train properly and if you make one mistake they notify HR as if you have been doing it continuously they are not diverse and they pay is very low lastly please don’t have a question because they say they welcome them and then when you ask it’s a problem

Good company to start at, but don't stay there forever
|
Working at Genewiz is very repetitive, though I'm a person that's ok with that kind of work. The amount of work is based off of customers, so one day can be extremely light while the next is backbreaking. Coming from a different biology background, I'm grateful that they took me in, but my work ethic was exploited. I busted my butt everyday working as quickly as efficiently as I could so my team as a whole could leave early, whereas my coworkers took their sweet time. The ability to get promoted is extremely difficult; the amount of requirements to advance from one rank to the next increases exponentially. Learning a lot of techniques is about the most enjoyable part of the job.
