High turnover for a reason

Branch managers and most employees are nice. I gave 1 star because of the family feel atmosphere with the managers and coworkers.
|
They put on a song and dance of how they care about your opinion and growth but in reality that’s just part of the script. They only care about specific employees and watch as employees leave due to toxic work environment. Claims that people leave due to “not everyone can do the job” or “it wasn’t a right fit” but I believe anyone can do a job with the right leadership and training.

Good Entry Warehouse Positions

|
A good place to get a forklift certification and warehouse experience. Weekends off, overtime if desired. Decent pay, decent benefits. Puts safety first. Workplace relations are amicable, in that everyone's just there to work and get the job done. A good environment for women and lgbtq+ looking to enter warehouse.

Pay is rather stagnant, and 5-10+ years employees often find themselves paid less or equal to new hires despite their seniority and experience. Not a great long-term employer anymore, many experienced people left to better warehouse opportunities. Workplace procedure changes are not well communicated, sometimes only getting around through word of mouth from other employees. Warehouse employees often feel less valued than the corporate employees. Punch-down system, good bosses overworked and have termination hanging over their heads if things don't go a certain way. White male dominated, of course. People of color snubbed time and again, especially when it comes to promotions. Racism definitely present in the workplace, and very difficult to prove since high up bosses and HR are primarily white.

Don't believe a word from "leadership"

There are still some employees here from a time when this company was a great place to work. They are dedicated and amazing folks to work with.
|
Telling stories about how great this organization once was does not make it so today. It is sad to see how very little "leadership" cares about their #1 asset, the employees. To be a VP in this organization takes one of two things, be related to the owners or have your lips firmly planted somewhere. No other qualification is needed. No integrity, no capacity to understand the department you manage, no care for your employees at all.

Third generation family run business. This is a good ole boy culture heavily dominated by white males. Every single salesperson in the company is a white male. Most VPs are high school buddies of the President that have been promoted. Managers are not properly trained leading to poor management from the top down. Many laid off from COVID were 20+ yr veterans who helped make the company what it is.

Not a place to start a career

I worked at Gensco in one of their warehouses for about a year and I found out that if you are looking for a career do not come here! If you start in the warehouse you will never leave the warehouse. They may promote you internally to other positions within the warehouse (Team Lead, supervisor even manager if you’ve been there for years) but you will never be qualified to work in their corporate office. They talk about diversity and inclusion but that’s a complete lie when you go see their corporate office that is full of white men with a few whit women sprinkled in there.
The only diversity you see is in the warehouse.
After trying on numerous occasions (myself as well as a number of other coworkers on my team) to position ourselves for a position in marketing, sales, and transportation within their corporate of they kept denying us. I thought it was because I was lacking experience but that was all cleared up when I left Gensco and got myself a sales development role.
Again if you’re looking at working at Gensco just know you will not leave the warehouse if you start there.
