private:geodecisions https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=217601 Aug 10th, 2020 12:00AM Open Open GeoDecisions Software Developer United States USA Your experience may vary Government project team is much easier to work on & is much larger than the Products team. Camp Hill Office has(or at least had) free soda. Small development teams with limited red tape in most situations. They seemingly despise remote work, as they don't allow people to work remote, while also employing multiple employees who are exclusively remote. Managers can play favorites They claim that you can have "a flexible schedule" and "set your own start/stop hours" but this isn't true in many cases. Because GeoDecisions is a division of Gannett Fleming, their overhead costs & NLM are INSANE, and Gannett is actively pushing Geo to increase these costs (NLM), which results in Geo not winning as many contracts because their bid is far too high. Products team tends to overwork their employees, as they seemingly refuse to hire more developers. Geo has a total of 1 QA tester for the entire company across the Products & Government teams. Many applications(not all) are developed with little to no automated testing. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 1.0 1.0 3.0 3.0 3.0 2.0 217601 Open Hire more QA (one with extensive Automated testing knowledge.) Prior to COVID-19, in which we've all been working remotely since March 2020, remote working opportunities were largely available and utilized across GeoDecisions. In fact, we have many employees who work from home 100% of the time. Where we have a challenge, and may have been your experience, is the last minute \"I'm working from home today\" situation. Of course, life happens... appointments, emergencies, kids, etc., but this shouldn't be a routine situation when you are expected to be in the office. Schedules are important for team continuity and for customer trust.\n\nIn regards to cost competitiveness, there are always challenges no matter the company or the industry. private:geodecisions https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=217601 Jun 2nd, 2019 12:00AM Open Open GeoDecisions Applications Developer Camp Hill, PA The Best of Both Worlds The company is very forward-thinking. Unlike many software development companies in the area, they're progressive and focused on new technologies and staying on the cutting edge. They're transparent with business decisions, and empower their employees to grow and pursue their desired career path. Best of all, employees are treated like adults and given flexibility to work in the way that suits them best. The billing structure makes team collaboration between developers fairly difficult, as hours on projects are generally limited enough and the team kept busy enough to stay fully utilized. This can make the average day somewhat isolating at times. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 1.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 4.0 5.0 217601 Open The forward thinking ideas are great! Although work distribution is a key goal, being mostly under a specific group may provide vastly different experiences than others. - Retirement benefits (401k match, profit sharing, pension, etc) are minimal and severely skewed to benefit age over all other factors including years of service. Can be detrimental to attracting young talent. However base compensation and other benefits are usually quite good and there are additional perks and earning programs. - Subdivisional ties to engineering parent company can sometimes cause organizational/operational awkwardness with IT-focused company 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 5.0 5.0 4.0 4.0 5.0 5.0 217601 Open Continue listening to the feedback given. private:geodecisions https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=217601 Feb 27th, 2018 12:00AM Open Open GeoDecisions Senior Analyst United States USA Awesome place to work I have worked at Geodecisions for nearly a decade, and have had overwhelmingly positive experiences. Senior management is extremely open-minded and accessible. Each time I have made suggestions I have felt heard, and many times my ideas have been taken up. I have benefited a great deal by having a flexible schedule – leadership trusts staff members, enabling us to work remotely when necessary. Due to partnerships with organizations around the globe, staff travel is quite common. As a result of the projects I have worked on, I have been able to travel extensively in the United States and internationally. There is a commitment to obtaining and utilizing the latest technology, which keeps staff members engaged with all of the industry’s latest advancements. The company regularly holds innovation challenges which are not only lots of fun, but which genuinely encourage staff members to think outside of the box. There honestly aren’t any significant cons that come to mind. I would just encourage Geodecisions to continue marketing our work and broadening the audience that knows about the comprehensive line of products and services we provide. A clearer delineation of roles between those who are responsible for procuring new projects and those who lead technical support aspects of projects would also be appreciated. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 217601 Open I think an increased focus on developing partnerships with other tech companies will help to ensure project pipeline remains strong.
