private:getmagic https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=972125 Mar 29th, 2024 12:00AM Open Open Magic Executive Virtual Assistant/Project Manager & Coordinator Orlando, FL Magic's focus is more on the cut of your salary They're really friendly at first and do a great job of following up with you, which is super helpful for keeping track of your schedule. Working with Magic has its ups and downs. While it starts off pleasantly, I've found that their focus tends to be more on their cut of your salary. When it comes to screening clients or dealing with tricky schedules, you might find yourself on your own. Some clients can be a bit stingy, and getting help from Magic can sometimes feel like pulling teeth. It's all smiles when they need to pair you up with a client, but it's worth remembering that they take a hefty cut of your salary. -1.0 NEGATIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 0.0 2.0 3.0 3.0 3.0 2.0 3.0 4.0 972125 Open Help your VAs thrive by matching them with clients who need more hours. Flexibility is key, especially when some clients only require a few hours a day. Let's prioritize those who need more support – after all, we've all got bills to pay! Remember to follow up with your VAs personally. A quick call goes a long way, rather than just relying on automated emails. 0.0 [] PART_TIME No No 2.0 Open Apr 2nd, 2024 03:12PM Apr 2nd, 2024 03:12PM Magic

private:getmagic https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=972125 Mar 3rd, 2024 12:00AM Open Open Magic Operations A promising company that's poorly scaling and throwing culture out the window Pro #1: Competitive Pay - Magic used to offer one of the highest paying jobs for entry-level positions and fresh graduates which I was fortunate enough to benefit from more than 5 years ago. Pro #2: Permanent WFA - A true, strong believer of 'Work-From-Anywhere' setup. Even before the pandemic, employees were already allowed to take their work anywhere as long as work performance is up. Pro #3: On-Time Salary Disbursements - In all my 5+ of working here, I've always received my compensation on time. In fact, as of late, they're almost always early. Pro #4: Startup Culture - There's not a strict hierarchy system where you're not allowed to talk to certain people above. You're encouraged to talk to anyone you need help from and almost everyone (except dedicated teams) are professional, friendly, approachable, and fun to be with. Micromanagement used to be hugely frowned upon. Pro #5: Pioneer in the VA industry in the country - Magic has more than half a decade of roots in the VA industry that's only recently booming in the market. The founding team themselves were the first VAs that used their unique software to connect with clients. They worked alongside us so they're more connected to the original core product of the company than most entrepreneurs just trying to capitalize on this market right now. (Subjective) Pro #6: Fast-paced - The company constantly switches priorities and focus so most people who want to constantly be on the limelight and/or thrives in constant switching of tactical operations have prosperous careers. Con #1: Culture is getting worse - The core values of the company that used to make it a fulfilling company to work for are sadly regressing or becoming twisted as time passes by. Training incoming management and new employees with the company principles used to be a thing until they were no longer required or monitored that you get a bunch of managers fostering culture that are working against the overall company culture. (a) Plowing forward used to be a fulfilling challenge because you're pushed to think outside of the box and are allowed to get creative with solutions as you collaborate. However, as of late, it just became an excuse for management to transfer the employee's concerns from one person to another and just ultimately blames the employee for the lack of results even though they've left that person hanging and constantly switch their work based on what the current priorities of the company. Resources will be continuously cut and they won't connect that to poor performance (e.g.: training duration decreased from 6 weeks to 4 weeks to 2 weeks so we'll continuously have underdeveloped VAs putting the pressure on TLs to fill the learning gap while taking the blame for lower scores and getting burnt out). (b) Different personalities and compromises used to thrive in this community. Clashes of personalities used to be the check-and-balance system where creatives push the boundaries while the 'Type As' keep those creative ideas aligned to the organizational numbers and goals. There used to be compromise on the timelines to keep things realistic (but still ambitious) and prevent people from burning out. Both the expressive employees and silent employees are acknowledged and appreciated for their contrast in strengths (e.g.: the voice and the backend worker, the risk taker and the one who looks for stability, the people guy and the metrics guy, etc.). Now, as the higher management gets more and more disconnected with actual operations, almost only the empty cans thrive. Every objective scrutiny is chalked up to closed-mindedness instead of actual care to the welfare of the people and the results. TLDR: Metrics, processes, systems, and culture do not align. Con #2: They do not learn from their mistakes. I've survived several rounds of layoffs - which they used to do the honorable way by the way - enough to observe a pattern. The company would get excited over a project, they will overhire and move people to get resources ready without fully polishing a plan, the project will get out of hand due to lack of planning and lack of financial monitoring, and they'll be "forced" to downscale due to "unforeseen circumstances." Con #3: Lack of employee development. Once you're in, you're on your own. Managers, no matter how well-meaning they are, aren't trained to improve on people management and coaching skills to deal with their subordinate's career progression. Performance evaluations are rarely audited (or even on time) to check if they actually have substance so you're lucky to get a manager who pays enough attention to your strengths and weaknesses to get a detailed evaluation on a regular basis. New managers aren't even required to take some sort of basic data lessons to report things properly nor will old managers tell you what to even consistently monitor and report anyway. You'll just know you missed something if something messed up. You will learn through trial by fire every time. You're lucky to get a proper, detailed, handoff with a graceful transition period. They strive to solve their problems by constantly bringing new people in and not developing their current talents. Upper management will always blame the talents and not their lack of a fostering culture. Con #4: Inconsistent annual increase. Due to poor financial handling, the company could not commit to an annual performance-based salary increase. I was fortunate enough to be part of the years they had one. -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL 0.0 NO_OPINION 0.0 2.0 2.0 1.0 2.0 5.0 1.0 3.0 972125 Open 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 6.0 Open Mar 7th, 2024 02:18AM Mar 7th, 2024 02:18AM Magic
