I’ve only encountered great humans who want to do good work, support their colleagues and make the platform better. Leadership genuinely cares about the wellbeing of the workforce, although they’re cornered by limited budgets. Even with these limitations, I really do appreciate my colleagues across various business sectors. Everyone is smart, nimble and kind. We have a such a great legacy to build upon. I feel like I’m able to show up as my authentic self everyday and share life stories with my peers that help make work feel more a part of life than separate from it. I’m trusted to get my work done on a schedule that suits me and I’m never questioned about my calendar. The last few years have been tough for every team at Glassdoor. We have so much potential but we are at the mercy of limited resources. It seems like we’re going about growth and innovation at snail speed and are neglecting our paying customer’s needs when all we want to do is offer great products that help reinvent hiring processes. The trade offs Product seems to be making to accommodate these limitations is disheartening but it’s not their fault. Our move to Community will feel better when we make it helpful for customers. From a morale perspective, we also don’t get to see each other in person often or at all, although I’m hoping this may change with forthcoming investments in company gathering strategy. We all desperately want to be together in person for an event. I’ve been here for 3 years and barely know anyone outside of my immediate team outside of Zoom. I’d love to meet cross functional partners on other teams, share a meal and discuss our goals or aspirations… or talk about non-work interests. I fully understand the need to build a platform that users want to leverage but our customers are dying for innovation and features that will make their lives easier. Build for our buyers and listen to their feedback. We want to be proud of what we are selling. Bring us together. Help us build rapport. Spend some money on culture building. We all want to see the company succeed but we’re all trapped at our kitchen tables. Create more opportunities for growth. Find more ways to make working with Indeed easier and help us meet them IRL (I love my Indeed partners, we just haven’t had any opportunity to build relationships with them outside of work). Engineering leadership is a shadow of what it used to be and the department is suffering as a result. As the review from March 16th pointed out, the recent round of layoffs seem to target a bunch of the top performers to make room to promote yes-men in their place. Morale has been falling for at least a year and engineering leadership either doesn’t know how to fix it, or doesn’t care.
