I didn’t know the meaning of toxic until this place!

Pay/bonus is nice, free lunch Fridays, and that’s about it.
|
Where to begin, the processes and procedures are dated. The firm is making improvements on technology but what use is it with dated and time wasting procedures. I learned the hard way that money isn’t everything, it is every man for themselves. There are favorites, drama, gossip, backstabbing, fear based management, and just overall low morale. My end of the day goal use to be just make it through the gauntlet alive... I absolutely regret not doing enough research before accepting this offer. My only hope is to at least prepare those who took better due diligence than I on what to expect.

Conduct anonymous surveys on culture and processes for every department and specific by location. Make it mandatory but have a third party collect and discuss results and make sure there is a portion for people to give suggestions. You will be surprised how much people are willingly to share their true feelings and feedback, if bias is mitigated and no repercussions. Then quite simply learn and improve.

A stain on my resume

Typical finance culture. I wish I could say the people are a pro, but there's a lack of personality in everyone I interacted with during my time.
|
The year I spent at Golub is an embarrassment on my resume. I can only speak to the lessons I learned as "what not to do" and "the kind of company I never want to work for". This is a place that is not meant for anyone with even a hint of innovation, entrepreneurial spirit, authenticity, or compassion. Long hours. Lack of diversity. Little empathy for employees. A laser focus on blindly executing on the Golub brothers' wishes and demands.

Swag - although nothing that stands out. Most firms offer silly branded things like coffee mugs and attire.
|
Culture is extremely set in its ways. No room for innovation. "Best in class" tools and programs are implemented here that might have been considered great 20 years ago. No flexibility. It's all about showing up and making sure you're seen at the office. No diversity.

Working at Golub was an awful experience

Lots of cool swag that I can't wear because I'd never want to promote a place like Golub Capital.

Where do I begin. The CEO & President are completely out of touch with the admin team. They've created an entire company that looks at the admin team like these bottom of the barrel morons. If you ever have the horrific opportunity of communicating with LEG or DBG, they go out of their way to speak in an extremely condescending tone to make you feel especially inferior and little. The admin team is treated like trash and kept busy with and picked on if they staple pages wrong or use paper clips instead of butterfly pins. They genuinely think so little of the entire department so ANY hope you have for growth, toss it out the window. There is absolutely favorites among the team. Some members of the admin team, although they're still looked down on, aren't treated as offensively as others. Pay for the admins is FAR BELOW market. They will add extra work to your plate without ever renegotiating your pay. As I mentioned, the senior people (mainly CEO & President) have created this culture where there is no respect shown to the admins, making even the more junior analysts and associates treat the team with the same belittlement. I've never felt so useless as I did going into work at Golub every day.

I don't really have any advice to give management because I don't believe there's anything human about LEG and DBG so the fact that the admins are complaining means nothing to them. They only care about the things and people that affect their bottom line.
