There is job security but there is a trade off
|
There is great job security with the hall coordinator position but you are asked to do alot. And by a lot I mean alot thats outside if your regular job which is already essentially 24hrs a day. Pretty much your asked to do everything on campus no on else wants to do for the simple fact that you're on campus 24 /7. Its gotten to the point where I feel like im always on call.

Free two floor fully equipped apartment, meall plan and felxible working hours
|
No days off, students will call you for everything, mangement expects when they say jump you reply " how high".

Worked summer custodial, for a few months of the summer it was fine. Wish pay was better than minimum wage and it was silly the supervisor switched from 6am to 5am start, but he's gone now

Expect a lot from you for little pay
|
As salary, you can expect some unpaid OT, but I have experienced more than I should for the really low pay we receive. The college preaches work/life balance and the importance of your whole self, but then certain departments don’t really care-unless you’re a PhD.

There is not a typical day working at Java. But you are often interacting and being social with the customers, that are also students just like you. Being a financial manager helped me see more of the financial perspective and background of Java and make me realize how important it is to make the right decisions.

My experience

I thoroughly enjoyed the work I did at goshen college. There is opportunity for overtime. As far as cleaning, it's not. hard. The downside of the job was being forced into believing what the college believes and dealing with discrimination.
