- Interview process was very fair. I was given a simple software development task and a more in depth QA task that were both good assessments of my performance

It Felt Like a Scam

I was really excited about this job for both what the company claimed to be doing and the high compensation.
CEO cares a lot about a long list of "values"
The product works just enough

Bonuses were canceled before I ever saw one. Not too long later, employee salaries were cut by 33%, but it was "effective" for the previous paycheck which meant employees only received 33% of their paycheck with no prior notice.
Between layoffs and turnover, the company only has one or two of the same employees they did last year.
Many employees were promised the chance to *build* technology or programs as you would expect in startups, but were not given the resources to do so and then instructed to basically maintain what was already there.
The technology does increase revenue for the customers, but they're taking a leap when they explain how it works.
The CEO is not a leader and plays a delicate balance of micromanaging and not being available. His involvement in a project typically meant slowing down or derailing an opportunity.

There’s been a lot of change this year and it's had an incredible impact. Prior this year, Granify was a one man leadership 'team' with the CEO filling too many roles and stretched way too thin. We had a group of managers that often weren’t aligned, didn’t seem to get the bigger picture and tended to deflect accountability. To be fair, they were typically inexperienced either as managers or in startup environments.
Transparency wasn’t great, there wasn’t enough trust built up, there was a lot of behind the scenes complaining and priorities were often murky and too broad.
At the beginning of the year, the CEO cleaned house. This was a really difficult time filled with uncertainty. The CEO then hired an awesome, experienced leadership team from scratch and it's completely changed everything in such a great way. It's always been an exciting place to work on the cutting edge with smart people chasing lofty goals. But the organization, leadership and communication improvements make it so much clearer why we're doing what we're doing and that's extremely rewarding. People are so much more positive now and we’re accomplishing way more. We’re seen our business results go through the roof recently and I have the confidence this will continue.

*There are days when I feel completed defeated and want to cry. This is the tradeoff for the elation that's possible with doing something really hard - and maybe with startups in general - but the bumpiness can be painful during the troughs.
*Majority of the leadership team is in Austin, so if you’re working in the Edmonton or New York office, a majority of communication is via slack or video chat.
