Amazing Individual Contributors but horrible Execs
|

Initially Grindr was an amazing place to work. All of the individual contributors are (were) super passionate about advocating for the lgbtq community. Unfortunately executive mangement mishandled the company and made it an extremely toxic place to work at.
|
Executive management is unfortunately out of touch with the employees and the userbase and lack any bit of empathy and integrity. Grindr only continues to exists because it has the biggest userbase but it's honestly a terrible app

Legit nothing. They want you to believe that average tech compensation and working for a mission driven company is a benefit, but it's not.

Management is the most toxic bunch of clowns. All of the C level Execs and VPs are strictly nepotism hires because they know the board or each other, and OMG are the incompetent and dumb as hell. Literately, you think they couldn't do anything more stupid and backwards, and then they outdo themselves!
This would all be at least tolerable if they were kind or moved out of your way so they could let you make decisions you know (as someone who's worked in consumer tech for for 10-15 years) are well based in reason and evidence, BUT they believe that they are the masters and their ideas are the only ideas worth doing. Oh, and if you don't listen to them, or publicly disagree with them, they will fire you. So either bootlick or be gone!
Anyone who stayed here after the return to office policy is a bootlicker, and will be out to get you if you don't follow suit with Arison's orders.
OH the best part. The gas lighting. They actually lie to your face and make you feel crazy. I will not be surprised if there is a class action law suit for emotional damage.
This all probably sounds hyperbolic as an outsider, but the best thing you could do for your self, sanity and career, is stay far, far away.

Expect to deal with executive incompetence on a regular basis. These are just about the most unqualified executives at any company. CFO and CEO seem confused and fake their competence with dumb comments. Low quality decisions are regularly made in lead circles. Business growth is slowing.

Grindr has been through a lot of different stages over it's 14-year history, and the summer and early fall of 2023 were a particularly tumultuous period, with departures by a significant number of team members who didn't want to or couldn't come back to the office 2 days per week. The company has now gotten through that challenging period and things are much brighter.
There's a renewed energy and positive team spirit, the business is thriving, we have an ambitious product and social impact roadmap, and we're hiring for dozens of roles.

Great purpose and mission serving LGBTQ+ community. The app is very good in what it needs to do for users. Lots of opportunities ahead in asia and europe.

The company is run by two leaders who makes decisions without any regard to merit and performance. AJ is a puppet and has no backbone to standup against George and Vanna. Vanna plays favoritism apparently in front of the entire company. She uses shady tactics to make people resign so the company don't have to pay severance. She has poor communication and leadership skills. She should go to jail for all malpractice at the company. George brings in bunch of friends without any regard to merit. The company is doing good on its own. If not for these two, company should be a doing lot better. The board will see this soon and fire these morons.
