Great people and members! Opportunities for career development, though they won't pay for it. Lovely location on the water with outdoor pool, lawn, and bbq area. Lots to offer: tennis, aquatics, spa, youth programs & camps, full fitness center and personal training, group exercise and pilates, cafe, locker rooms, etc. Good membership rates for all that is being offered.

It's 40 years old and showing its age; everything is bandaided together, rather than being properly renovated. They are not keeping up with current fitness trends. They keep closing departments: restaurant, bar, special events, etc. They have lost a lot of good managers & supervisors due to upper management. Management shows no appreciation for its employees. They don't give raises, not even cost of living increases.

The Aquatics Director(s) do their best with what they are given. Shifts are assigned around your schedule, lots of flexibility. Good camaraderie among the staff. Good summer job for a high school student.

Not enough instructors to meet the demands of swim lesson requests. Instructors often had to teach back to back to back (etc.) lessons due to understaffing. Pool water maintenance is questionable and management does not seem to care about water quality. Little to no staff trainings and does not offer recertifications for employees

Look into proper pool maintenance procedures and follow them - do not dump chemicals into the water while people are in it. Provide more training for new hires and for entire staff to maintain skills.

Membership with two hours per week, nice pool, nice people! Nice location and supportive management. Have worked here for eight years.
|
Lower pay than other gyms in the same area. They gym is falling apart and trying to move locations, not without a fight. Management desperately needs HR training. They lack a professionalism that corporate companies insist upon.

Get your managers, all of them, HR training. Be sure to have your managers do background checks on all new employees. Certifications need to verified and managers need to handle customer complaints and financial issues instead of pushing those onto employees. Stand up for your instructors.

If you strive to be a youth counselor/camp counselor the Harbor Bay Kids Club is the place to work. The manager is great and really cares about her employees and the children. This is a great first job and the employees are a pleasure to be around. You won't find a better camp to work at or after school program in Alameda.
|
Downsides are there are not enough hours to work full time during the school year since the after school program starts mid-day and finishes around 6:30.
