I was very impressed by the way the staff quickly accepted me and made me felt welcome immediately. It was easily my favorite place to work because of the relationships I was able to build with coworkers, even those not in my department. Paid holidays including two weeks off at Christmas were a definite bonus, as well as the protection a school provides in closing the campus during inclement weather. If you are someone who prioritizes faith, there is freedom to have your spiritual growth nurtured here with weekly chapel services or other events, and the ability to openly discuss faith/scripture and prayer. Dynamic relationships with students and helping them grow toward their future goals is fulfilling, along with the feeling of community afforded by a small campus. There are also numerous amenities that can be used by employees on campus, including dining services and wellness center access, and free admission to all campus activities (plays, sporting events, concerts, etc). Hardworking, loyal employees who had been there for decades were deceived frequently, overworked, and continually faced cuts to benefits, budgets, and departmental staffing, which also slashed morale to the bone. These actions, while building countless new facilities, ran off many valuable workers. There is no transparency by the administration and very little value of those that work there, so you have no voice. Because of the continual cuts, pressure would increase exponentially, but you were told overtime was not allowed, then reprimanded when the workload was too much to get done during regular work hours. Good Work-Life Balance with strong values. The people are the best thing about HSU. We are like a family. I went here for school and transitioned into work. Great place to grow as a person as well as professionally. HSU is going through some tough times and had to make some tough choices.
