This company is a third party administrator for medical claims. After training period I was put with an experience employee to help with continued training. There are many steps to processing medical claims. But it was great comradery among employees.

Micromanaging, no appreciation or room for advancement

Micromanaging. Unprofessional. Raises a couple coins per year. No room for growth. They say you dont have skills to apply to a better internal position when you have years of work put into their company. Layoffs frequently. Poor communication. They expect you to be happy with a pizza party. Did i say micromanaging?

Hard work. Met deadlines. Then it was time to leave.

The Senior Accountants walked in the door each day and started reconciling our accounts. Depreciating our Fixed Assets. Amortizing Accrued Liabilities. We approved our AP expenses related to the accounts we monitored.
They really knew how to throw a party. Lots of fun. Lots of participation by everyone at Halloween. Christmas was fun. The Supervisors always left something on our desks for the smaller holidays. Valentine's. St. Patrick's.
Lay-offs happened regularly as they were constantly trying to cut cost. Eventually it was time for Accounting to cut costs. I left the same day as the Controller and a few other accountants did. Nothing personal. Just business.

They lay-off all knowledgeable people to hire ones that have no experience or knowledge of health insurance. They do not match 401k at ALL. They have a horrible management in the claims and ESR department. No matter how much work you do, it’s never enough and they are always short handed in the worker areas so you’re always overloaded

Out of mine and my friend's/co-worker's 3-5 years of working for HlthSmt - in house-word of mouth survey with one another, we received 1-2 raises annually on avg... Out of 3-5 years of service to three company.
Pay range was 12$'s/hr - 18$'s & some change max out, for most hourly positions.
While this was the case, and when reviews and raises came up in corporate meetings & emails, we would often be told we'd be receiving raises, then in
another quarter we'd be told that the company couldn't afford raises...
All the while the email or meeting would be to inform us of an acquisition of a new company or product, or services that we as a company had purchased to better ourselves as a whole; and to provide better profits to our investors.
On another note, management would often not back us on points of topic during meetings & discussions, to better serve our clients as a TPA, perform better as a department.
And if we were vocal about concerns or issues, or spoke up or out, we were often put down, or silenced; in a few instances, we were subjected to direct and indirect threats to our jobs and lively-hood. No matter how good our overall work performance and ethics were as an individual employee and team member working in a group and supporting the department(s) as a whole.

I worked for Healthsmart just for a few years after they bought our company from Wells Fargo. I loved the work that we did, but benefits took a dive along with job security.
