Flexible with scheduling, to an extent

Treats staff like feces. You are expendable with no name. Terrible at communication. They avoid it, and it will bring you much grief.
They do offer Jiu-jitsu training on the side, but it's a ripoff and they act as if it's the only style of combat in the world. Strikers need not apply.

Not a long or medium term solution
|
|
This company does alot to try to accommodate schedules. To include getting one day off each Sat/Sun.
It isn't difficult to communicate with ones management team and they encourage their staff to pass on ideas that would improve operations.
There is always plenty of overtime opportunities. Helix doesn't shy away from letting their employees work 60 hours a week if one wants to.
The management I have met seem very smart, friendly, and capable at their jobs.
|
Most shifts are 12 hours long. That is too long, basically makes the days you work be only about work. Work, go home and wind down for an hour or two, go to sleep, and repeat.
Helix has some questionable things they do with h their contracts that seem to mislead the client and allow Helix to charge more money.
It seems that Helix will hire just about anyone, to include veterans that don't have honorable discharges and folks who were let go from past security jobs for questionble if not illegal things the person did at their previous job.
Helix goes through a fair amount of contracts, from what I have seen, most of those terminated contracts are in part from supervisors/management not taking off guards that do a bad job.
While there is opportunity to advance, the jobs that are higher than the basic guard job don't pay more, they actually pay less per paycheck. One could advance with Helix, but youoo have more responsibility, more last min commitments, and typically make less than the people youre responsible for.

I'd suggest making shift be 8-10 hours and not 12. 12 burns out your people and doesn't do much except to allow schedulers to not need as many people. Pay your supervisors and management more.
Don't hire veterans with other than honorable discharges. Most of the management are vets and know how easy it is to get an honorable discharge and that to not get that discharge means the person did some bad stuff and since security has legal obligations and lots of risk and liability, it seems foolish to hire vets that aren't honorably discharged.
Finally, stop putting guards into areas they can't handle. It's riddiculouss that Helix loses so many contracts in part to not putting guards in places they can handle. If a guard shows a lack of maturity or the ability to professionally handle a site put that person somewhere else, retrain, or terminate.
My biggest concern is that Helix puts too much of a business emphasis on what they do. I realize y'all gotta have staff to have contracts and that you need contracts to make money. But there's tons of legal liabilities and things that guards can keep can't do legally that aren't trained or seem to be cared about. Helix is losing clients and reputation because guards aren't trained to know that legally they can do or can't do and when something happens, typically the response from management is somewhat minimal. A guard could be accused of doing something illegal or wrong many times but it gets blown off and that puts the other guards that work that site in a tough spot with the client and sometimes with police.

Un Fair work Practices
|
|
Not many Pros other than the first set of supervisors try hard.
|
Upper Management can care less about their employees, no benefits other than worthless stocks and call you site Supervisor which is BS. According to the Law. 99% of the time your by yourself. No OT until you reach 50 hours as a full time person which they call you a salary personal which is BS According to State Wage Board. Their is a Class action Law suite over this situation. If your not Military or ex police there is no room for advancement. You can tell that upper Management has no experience in owning a business. All we can say is WOW.

Over worked, Underpaid.....
|
|
The job is relatively strait forward you protect grow houses and dispensaries and clients. Most of the staff are former Law Enforcement and Military personnel, I myself am a Military Veteran. You would think that because of this the company would be run with the same kind of efficiency.... think again...
|
I have been with the company well over 11 months and I can honestly say as soon as I hit the I am looking for work else where, They hours are sporadic and you never know where you are going to be from one week to the next. When I first started working for the company I worked 7 days a week pull 12 to 14 hour long shifts with no breaks in-between. Yeah thats fun... not.... I did that for 7 months, I and every time ask for a my hours to be cut so i could take care of family at home the request where ignored and up management does not care about the average employee, your just a number to them nothing more. Overall its just not worth the effort to work here. You would think that vets would look out for one another not here not even a little bit... they only care about the bottom line. Money...

Great and easy job

Ran by former military, so if you are used to operating this way, its an easy job if you can follow instructions properly. Open door policy if you have any issues.
