Watch everything you say and do because there is always some busy body watching you and reporting you if they think it will further their gain. Main Partners in the firm are so out of touch with reality and think everyone has the same lifestyle as them. Never offer to go too above and beyond otherwise you’ll end up building wardrobes in your bosses office, sorting out their dirty washing, clearing up their dirty cutlery, making diet plans for them and constantly getting told off if your train or coach is delayed. You’ll be asked to get up an hour earlier each morning just in case, so if you live in Kent then expect 14/15 hour days. HR are awful and just want to place blame on anyone that seems feasible to be a scape goat. No one will listen as they are all in it for themselves and you will get asked ridiculous questions that make you feel guilty about nothing. Oh, and expect lots of boozy lunches where managers disappear for ages to ‘schmooz,’ with clients while you’re stuck working god awful hours and often missing lunch breaks. Not for contractors. Hogan Lovells has some great people. They truly encourage their employees to give back via a global citizenship program. I would have loved to have worked there full time, but I was a contractor.
