private:housegov https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=106543 May 1st, 2024 12:00AM Open Open United States House of Representatives Regional District Director Socorro, TX Amazing for expanding skillset and endless job opportunities for the future - Helping people is the #1 goal in this role. You get to impact the lives of people very day. - You met amazing people every day. From County Judges, to Sheriff’s, to Mayors, important Stakeholders, community leaders, and more, and they become your best friend. - If you do the job right and not cut corners, build amazing skills that can be used anywhere. When I left this role and began applying to jobs, I was getting call backs and interviews within days of applying. Nonprofits, corporations, PACs, Lobbyists, and firms love that experience. - You build a solid reputation in your community. - Federal Government benefits are better than private sector most times. Retirement match and health insurance are top notch. - Milage reimbursement is heavy, so you always make some extra money depending on how much you travel. - When you serve your constituents, it’s hard to get a day off, and when you do, you find yourself working. You can’t really “clock out” or turn it off. - There’s always something to do - a business owner who needs help with the IRS, a veteran who has a VA claim, a sheriff who is being bombarded with migrants at the border, a prison being unlawfully shut down by a federal agency, cell phone tower falls and law enforcement officers can’t utilize any tech along the border, the list is never ending. Because of this, you easily work 80-100hrs a week. - The pay for district staff for a freshman congressman starts incredibly low, almost at the poverty level sometimes. While budgets grow annually and your hard work can get you a 50% raise (not likely, but it happens to me), you are still subjected to low pay. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE -1.0 DISAPPROVE 0.0 4.0 1.0 3.0 5.0 2.0 5.0 4.0 106543 Open Every office will be different, as the constituents change in every region within the district. Have high standards for your staff but remember they aren’t robots. Working 80-100hrs a week is not healthy. 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 2.0 Open May 5th, 2024 06:06AM May 5th, 2024 06:06AM U.S. House of Representatives
