New management team in place since last fall has really transformed old problem of not having a good work life balance. If you read this in other reviews look at date and see if it is before Fall 2016 when work life issues happened.
Excellent benefits and pay. Bonus program and matching 401K.
Great group of people to work with. Company culture good - onsite lunches, parties.
Flexible work arrangements (many people work at home/offsite with flexible hours).

Parking lot between two buildings is awkward. You need to go on Route 9 to drive to other building. Does not have cafe but does have free gourmet coffee machine (Boston Bean).

Smart co-workers, decent pay and benefits. Parts of the executive leadership team realize that the organization needs to become more agile in its operations and more up-to-date in its technology stack.

Complex, out-dated technology with myriad points of failure; high employee turnover has left company bereft of subject matter expertise; insanely demanding release frequency (point releases every two weeks or so) put incredible demands on the engineering, DBA, ops, and QA teams; inability to shake off red tape and all previously mentioned pressure points conspire to prevent the company from entering the 21st century agile world of software development despite heroic efforts by some.

This is a piece of advice to the management located in Lansing, Michigan (where Blue Cross of Michigan is headquartered): don't look to turn ikaSystems / Visiant into a cash cow in the next year or two, but make a long-term plan to modernize the company's technology infrastructure. This will require big investments, but that is the only way to make the company profitable in the long term.

There are a lot of good people trying to make ika better, but the organization does not have the discipline to see these initiatives through. I was there about a year and I witnessed many positive projects / transformations launch, make SOME progress, then get cancelled. The lack of commitment to these changes was professionally exhausting to many people unfortunately.
The organization does not do a good enough job managing its customers. At any given moment a customer could determine they didn't like the performance of a non production environment and it could be deemed an emergency that all kinds of staff have to work all hours to re-mediate. No advance notice, no planning or risk management -- just -- you have a downtime tonight and you HAVE to fix it.
In all honesty, I would have rated the company higher, maybe a 2, but there have been a spattering of positive review that I think might be dubious. I know many pro ika people who in all honesty would not rate ika a 5 star employer.

The company is working on a ground up transformation. In my time there this seems to be the most serious effort they have made to fix the considerable issues. Have the discipline to stick with this initiative.
Its time to manage the customers better. This paradigm destroys work life balance, you need to stand up for your people more courageously.

This is your place if: you want to work 70+ hours weekly; with no thanks and full blame for supporting applications with a paucity of server resources; and be blamed because Medicare regs for recoverability are not followed, though there is no security in place that has ever been followed - and if you know that your job will be sent to Mexico or India with only 2 weeks' notice and 2 weeks' pay and no recommendation from your manager so can get another job -- then surely try working there

Company should be called Dishonest corp. Right before review and right after enrolling in Health Care was termed. BAM you're no longer needed. After providing hard work and top value to company, just like that, you're no longer needed. They lie lie lie lie lie. They tell you at Town Hall everything is great, the Company is doing great in one breath than term you in the next breath in mass numbers. Consultants come and go hardly working while bleeding the company financially. Management is a revolving door bringing in poor talent in Management and employees. HR is useless. The ika Executives have all been replaced with BCBSM employees who are telecommuting. Other Departments are being replaced or cut down in droves. The CEO doesn't even know your name and doesn't care to. ikaSystems/BCBSM is not a company you want to invest in. They are steering the company into bankruptcy. Think about it, they are from Michigan. How's that State's economic stability?? Steer Clear.
