Great Culture but Employee Stimulus needs more work
|
|
- Great Culture. The company has a good sense of direction of where it wants to be and what needs to be done in order to get there.
- Can work from home or on site as long as you deliver. Sometimes you feel that you can do more working from home because you can spend more hours and help the company than commuting and being on site.
- You grow in experience as you work there. at first it seems overwhelming but you get a lot of guidance and you get the ropes quickly and start contributing in less than a year.
- Focus on delivering a quality product. Any idea that can make customers improve their work and success is welcome.

- A growth in experience will not mean a growth in position. You will find yourself sometimes under-compensated after 1+ years learning and contributing.
- Being outspoken and getting yourself known seems to be better than your overall contributions that only but a few (in your team) notice. So introvert people with great skills see their growth getting slower.
- Sometimes, no matter how hard your work is and how big your contribution, a single "But..." can hit you hard.
- A high paying customer can stop development and switch priorities anytime just because.

- Do not expect all your employees to fit a "cookie cutter" profile. Accept more differences in personality traits and check their contributions more.
- Try not to please high paying clients every time by stopping development to fulfill the request, it cab stagger progress.
- Look to value your employees more when they are in your company and not when they are leaving.

Engineering team is full of friendly, funny, geniuses. The work is engaging and unique. Work/life balance is perfect. You can work remotely. Management is nice and competent. Everyone is concerned with quality and trying to do things better. Very laid back atmosphere (video games, snacks, beer, board games) Pay is fair and there is opportunity to advance your career. This by far the best job I've ever had.

Shy/introverted folks may struggle a little with coming out of their shell (but that's the case at most companies)

Solving the same problems every year

There are a handful of folks who care about being better and making the product/company better. There's flexibility in working remote (I haven't seen some people in the office in months).
|
Everything is an emergency, all day, every day. There is an old guard who has the power, but not the skills, and those closest to the leadership are heard - even when they shouldn't be. Teams have changed at least 4 times in 2 years. CEO lambasts people for posting negative things on Glassdoor, during town halls. No advancement opportunities as the job ladder/review system has been "in progress" for over three years.

- The majority of employees are fun, caring and interesting people
- Cool office and in a good downtown Chicago location
- Office Beer Keg
- Transparency from leadership regarding company financials
|
- "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result."
- Many questionable decisions made by leadership, from the top-down
- A lot of socially awkward employees that collectively brings down the maturity level in the office
- Distracting office space
- Too casual of a work environment
- Interview process is way too intense for the company and does not accurately reflect the difficulty of work at InContext.

Great people, Not so great leadership

There is a young office environment with a work hard, play hard mentality. The people who are not in leadership roles are some of the nicest, hardworking people you will ever meet.
|
The company and it's leadership constantly roll out "big ideas" like core hours but then there is a negative culture surrounding those that choose to partake. They are more focused on how things look, versus how things actually are. You will be measured more on perception than reality and given that the professional development has been an ongoing joke, good luck figuring out how to succeed within this firm.

This is not the place if you have couple years experience, no accountability....they look for the candidate being culturally fit..well this is important but not the most important one...most of the reviews mention how awesome it is..may be if you have just come out of a horrible company you may find some solace here...lots of internal politics..no formal feedback process
