Unfortunate Growing Pains :(
Virtually everyone is friendly and social. Regular happy hours, cool office and amenities, standard to good benefits, and working on some cool and innovative projects. There are some amazingly talented people here who inspire and are fun to work with.
Diversity diversity diversity and retention along with treatment of said diversity. The studio has a leftover boy's club mentality from before its recent acquisition that does not come across well to newer folks let alone "diverse" newer folks. It registered as sexist and having some racial microaggressions to me although I'm sure the majority of the studio has good intentions and no idea it comes across this way. There's lack of communication as well that I've witnessed lead to an employee deciding to leave. During my time, I quickly picked up on some serious politics/alliances and had this confirmed in conversations by coworkers who'd been with the company much longer. Decisions are made about people when they aren't present to defend themselves, managers gossip to employees about other employees, seemingly lack of concrete rules that are communicated to everyone so decisions appear arbitrary despite what they try to tell you. No defined metrics for career growth. Implicit bias was a huge concern of mine, favouritism, etc. Would not recommend to my underrepresented friends and connections unless they've mastered navigating this type of environment.

Go out of your way to communicate with employees, especially the new ones and even more-so the "diverse" ones. These are the people with a fresh lens as they can give new perspectives. Continue to work on culture development and make it a priority. Stop gossiping about employees. Word gets around believe it or not. These are all environmental/cultural factors so keep up the great work on the other fronts.

Great people and creative energy at all levels
The company has an excellent pedigree insofar as the management are all video-game veterans (just look up "Alex Seropian" anywhere on the web). I'm hard pressed to name a better group of people I've ever worked with. No matter whether they're working in development, game design, marketing, or at the higher levels of management, everyone is very creative and down-to-earth. Every Wednesday night is a social "happy hour" that is a good bonding experience. The premier product of the company, a mobile game for iOS, is one of the better FPS games I've played on that platform, and everyone in the company had a hand in beta testing each release.
When I left, the company was still in burn mode, relying heavily on outside investment until their income—largely in-app purchases from their premier mobile game—could ramp up to a sustainable level. They seemed to have the right understanding of what metrics to gather and how to act on them, though.
Out of twenty-plus employees, there was one woman there. The office didn't feel like a sexist environment by any means other than this one odd fact.

You have a great group of people there. I think you all have a good attitude diversity-wise, though I think you could take some concrete steps to improve real diversity. That's the only remotely critical thing I have to say, though. Keep making more games like Midnight Star!
