The CEO has a good knowledge in the industry but no idea on how to treat her employees right. The CEO was very emotional and did not know how to effectively speak with anyone. She would communicate by yelling, she would speak frankly, and she would berate you in front of others for your mistakes. I believed she's a good and passionate person but can be misled sometimes. At the start it can be intimidating dealing with staff, not because of them but because coming in, it is clear to see how talented and hard working everyone is. . Two months in we all went into lockdown and this is where I truly saw how passionate everyone is about the business and how quickly everyone came together to make this new environment our new normal, while still promoting team working and staff wellbeing. I found it fascinating how everyone from my peers to the CEO quickly rallied around me to provide me with the support I needed while working from home in a new role that I had not yet finished induction for. With time I gained the confidence I had lost in my previous job where I lacked support, and I now find myself calling even the Chairman for advise on how to do things, where in the previous company I could not name, let alone have a conversation with anyone above my line manager. We’re encouraged to take part in social activities and put our hand up to get involved in the business initiatives to make a change. The business also is very interested in providing additional learning opportunities in order for you to further your knowledge and progress within the company with a clear path view, and are keen for you to explore other areas of the business if at any point you feel like you want to step outside of your role. This empowers people like me as we know that we’re not going to be pigeonholed in a role and you can really go as far as you want within the business if you put the work in. Overall some really good things happen at Informed, there are some really good days and some that don’t go as well as you want them to, but like everywhere you have to take the good with the bad. I accept that you may have felt demoralised because of your own experience, which I don't know anything about, but you shouldn't really speak for the rest of us.\n\nFor example, throughout this extremely challenging period, the whole company has worked together to design systems and processes that help us look after each other and continue to work effectively. We've had weekly \u2018people\u2019 catch-ups since the early stages of lockdown, which helped us manage a successful transition to fully remote working, and we do bi-weekly all-employee video meet-ups. We've found ways to stay connected, have a laugh and celebrate our small and big achievements. I would have to say that morale is very high and whilst temporary and contract staff typically do move around, which is expected, staff turnover has always been low during all of my time here and it is still low.\n\nI am proud to say that our company continues to grow despite the challenges and would recommend that if you are reading this review with a view to applying for a role at Informed, speak to us first and get a much needed sanity check. The first is based on the references to COVID and the timing that this person alleges to have left the company, because I know that no member of staff has been furloughed, made redundant or left for any COVID related reason. The second reason is that the company has diligently managed work priorities, individual workloads and staff wellbeing (using leading mental wellbeing triaging techniques) at daily team stand-ups and weekly meetings with their responsible director. Separately, People Services have called individual members of staff for relaxed, private chats whenever we sensed someone might be experiencing personal, home or work related problems. In these ways, we are checking-in with our people every single day to support their mental wellbeing and ensure they are coping with working remotely. \n\nNo one has reported experiencing any significant issues, including any of our graduates and young professionals, and in particular there have been no problems with unsustainable workloads or people struggling with the work assigned to them. Since implementing full remote working, the company has gone to very considerable lengths to ensure that no one is isolated and it has never been left to the discretion of any individual team leader to make decisions about assigned priorities, workloads, personnel related issues or maintaining communications with team members.\n\nFor all of the reasons outlined above, this post is in my opinion disingenuous.\n\nJames Cruddas, Lead Technical Consultant\nPersonally, I\u2019m proud of the way that the company has come together as a whole to support each other and our clients through the challenges that COVID has bought us all. These online tools have built-in safety features that alert us to and protect us from becoming overworked for lengthy periods of time. Don\u2019t get me wrong, there are times when we are very busy \u2013 that\u2019s when our daily team stand-ups and weekly director team catch-up meetings are used to re-balance the workloads, as well as renegotiate priorities and reschedule deadlines when necessary. Everyone is in the same boat, so both colleagues and clients have been very empathetic and supportive since COVID hit us.\n\nThese online collaboration and work management tools, as well as the daily and weekly team catch-ups, enable us to plan, assign, monitor and report on peoples\u2019 workloads and how they are coping. Alongside this, we\u2019re offered a wide selection of excellent wellbeing initiatives e.g. guided meditations, fitness classes. We\u2019re also assigned a buddy, so we can check-in with each other and there are a wide variety of personal development and wellbeing masterclasses on offer. These things were in place even before lockdown. Since lockdown, staff have been asked to suggest improvements and this resulted in a number of key wellbeing modules being quickly enhanced and refocused to better support full remote working and being delivered online. Everyone at Informed has valued and benefited from this support.\n\nIf this post and review is genuine, I am very sorry you feel disappointed about your team leader and time at Informed. However, I cannot reconcile what you\u2019ve said with the reality of 7+ years of working life at the company. At first this took some time to get used to as in previous organisations senior decision makers were remote contactable figures and often you didn’t have any say in important decisions. Also, working with a wide range of experts has helped me broaden out my own knowledge and a greater appreciation for the work others in the team are doing (I never knew there were so many different types of maps, addressing data and had never heard of a udprn) - Software Engineering and DevOps: Over the recent past software engineering and devops principles have become more important than ever. We are fortunate to have clients who are embracing the use of modern, industry leading technologies (e.g. Serverless, machine learning) and want to adopt maturing devops principles and technologies (e.g. continual deployment, automation first). This can see us delivering new features to the public within hours when our clients and their users need it most. I am proud that his has been recognised by our industry peers , having been part of teams that have won awards for public sector innovation and Infrastructure & Platforms Innovation - Celebrations and awards: While we all enjoy working hard, we certainly enjoy a party! The company has arranged some great celebrations during my time from quiz nights to flying over Sydney harbour (that one was particularly spectacular). - Working around our users: Working in software engineering means that often we need to work around our users which can mean some evening or weekend work. This is certainly not the norm but may be required from time to time. (you will notice this in my work life balance score) - Project deadlines: There are times where we need to pull out all the stops to meet the project timescales that the team has agreed to work to. This can mean that during those times there can be increased pressure to get things done but I have always found my team will step in to help ensure things get done - Embrace your colleagues: We place value on a team culture, talking things through and taking input from a range of colleagues with difference skills and experiences.
