Great people, solid leadership, flexible work environment. The events are always a lot of fun. Everyone is remote but still says connected through online meetings.

Great company culture. Everyone works from home. We have video chat meetings, communicate via Slack, and have occasional regional meet-ups. The company truly values journalism ethics and supports its journalists. Employees really care about the experience of readers and conference attendees.

A small company, not a startup

- The entire organization is remote, so it's not for everyone but the individual departments do a great job of keeping the communication lines open and active
- If you're a self-strater, you can essentially own your domain and actually impact bottom line growth
|
- Not very transparent about big picture goals and objectives
- Not supportive of organized professional growth (i.e. no ability to pick up skills cross functionally)

Inman is 30-year-old company that runs like a startup. It's an organization of doers, where no one sits on their hands waiting for a checklist of action items. real estate might not seem like an exciting vertical, but there is constant change right now, which keeps it interesting. Within the industry, Inman is a trusted brand. Travel is minimal for most of the team.
|
Being a completely remote team has its downsides. The editorial side of the business is operated in a bit of a silo from the sales/partnership side, but not sure what can be done about that since it keeps money from influencing the news coverage.

remote is the only reason most people work there...some people work like dogs, others have a six-figure vacation "working from home"
do not need to know about real estate

people in technical jobs are underpaid...could double salaries somewhere else
bosses nitpick as opposed to helping...bored maybe?

Good people, remote work, a paycheck with mediocre benefits. Seems like the company hires good talent.

Notice how there are three 5 star reviews in Aug ‘17? That is how this company operates...management tries to cover up the flaws and immediate red flags this place has. Cliquey leadership, unattainable goals, no real future outlook... this place has turnover like I’ve never seen before. I can’t think of anyone who got promoted in the 2+ years I was there. Glad to be out of there

Some who've worked for big companies with highly developed training, perfect process and a ton of management hand-holding for their role may feel less comfortable at Inman. Those same folks likely wouldn't feel comfortable in most Start-Up environments. This may be a Con for some, but a Pro for many others.

Seems to be growing rapidly with plans to significantly expand its audience. Uncontested leader in industry coverage. Truly independent and not beholden to advertisers -- probably due, in part, to successful paywall and Brad Inman's journalism background. Gives reporters the time and resources they need to produce meaningful journalism. Rewarded performance generously and unprompted in several cases. Welcomes and often acts on new ideas from staff. Everyone works remotely. Lots of friendly people. Hard-charging CEO who will personally provide mentoring and support if you are passionate about your work. I consider myself very lucky to have landed here.

These are either pros or cons depending your perspective: Everyone works remotely, which can be lonely unless you take steps to be around others. Must be ready to adapt. Must be committed to learning the ins and outs of the industry. It gets complicated. I usually roll my eyes when I read reviews that are this positive, but the fact is, you should expect to thrive here if you like your line of work.

Consider tailoring productivity bonuses to individuals on a case-by-case basis, in addition to or instead of team productivity bonuses (which have been generous). Create a vetted directory and referral network for top agents. Create a directory or marketplace for real estate products and services without compromising editorial integrity. Make your management style clear from the get-go.
