Toxic work culture. The CEO doesn't know what he is doing. He doesn't bother talking to employees doing the ground work, and is surrounded by incompetent management who tell him what he wants to hear.

Finally - a mission driven company with professional people that enjoy each other

Companies all over tend to say that they are mission driven but Inscopix really is. We want to make it a better world. The reality is most of us know someone that has suffered from a brain illness. Mental health is especially critical these days.
Super impressive people. They communicate well, share ideas, and are willing to look at new perspectives. (It's probably the scientist mentality). No company is perfect but the people are even keeled, focused, and positive. It's nice to be a part of a company where people don't get in the way of the work, they make the work easier and better.

We're on this cusp of being bigger so we have less resources than a large company. It's a challenge to balance what do I need to get done today with carving out time so I can fix how work is getting done today to make it easier for the future.

Take the time to find qualified management who can actually own the role, don’t just promote unnecessarily from within. Reduce nepotism, since that clearly seems to be the underlying issue. You can’t have a successful company that’s so small with so much dead weight.

Coming from academic research, this place is a dream. Smart, kind, hard working coworkers and bosses. Very ambitious projects focused on product development as well as basic research. Lots of support and allowance for growth.
Great benefits and catered lunch daily. Reasonable work hours without the explicit expectation for a 10+ hour workday, as is common in academia and (from what I hear) many Bay Area startups.

Free catered lunches and snacks, $500 towards gym membership or athletic activities, good health benefits, and a few smart people -- namely in R&D, Applications, and Engineering.

The technology is somewhat cool but they have no idea how to market or sell it. The management team is indecisive and cannot make or stick to a decision. They try really hard to be "innovative" and "cutting-edge" but the culture, process, people, and product within the company are still very stuffy and old-school. Truthfully, they need to clean house; get a better CEO with a clearer vision, change out the executive team who already can't seem to get along, and perhaps that might be the recipe to success.

Unprofessional management, especially engineering.
Low tech - systems and processes are laughable
No room for growth
Equipment is from the 70s just like the management techniques
Only reason anyone should work here is If they are absolutely desperate for a job
