Best research requires phd. Lack of tratitional workforce structure can be overwhelming to some. Highish turnover.

While working at Intellectual Ventures- specifically the Insitute for Disease Modeling, I had joined a very tight knitted admin group. Upon my first couple months with the admin team it was normal training experience as expected. Unfortunately, it quickly changed when the director left on extended leave. Shortly after the leave started my “trainers” started to become cold, short, dismissive, and even show passive aggressive hostility. I would be given an assignment and told I had free reign of the planning just to be told it was wrong and be given an exact plan of how they wanted it. It happened repeatedly and I started to feel targeted. I would be scolded and voiced raised accusing me of actions that I did not do- to instead find out my other co-worker had done incorrectly not me. They did not like me questioning things, they did not like my ideas, they did not like my proposals- arguing that I (who went to business school) did not know how to write a business proposal and just wasted my time. In addition, as if it couldn't get worse, one specific co- worker had called me stupid and made fun of a speech impediment I had in the past in front of another team member. Due to the high stress and emotionally hostile environment, I began to have severe symptoms of my disability PTSD. When my disibilty became unmanagable, I went to HR to report the incidents and my treatment at work. In turn, I was met with HR telling me that I was the problem and it was my PTSD and not their employees. When I had to explain my situation to the co-workers in question I got met with more hostility by my direct trainer. She asked invasive questions about my disability. I was met with the comment “so are you saying you won't be able to do as much because you have this disability, because we need people who can carry the load... or what?”. In retrospect, I believe I was treated unfairly and even dare I say verbally discrimated against behind closed doors. I believe now more then ever that no matter what I did, how I performed, or even my disability, that anyone hired into that job would also have had the same issues. I even had another co-worker (new hire) go through the same issues and witness my experience. I only now have felt confident enough to tell what happened m. It is unfortunate that the director was not present during that time. The director seemed like an amazing person- just unaware of the nature of their employees and how they treated their other admin while they were not present. You can be “amazing” people to others in the company and show face, but how you treat people behind doors is what really matters. As amazing as this company is with the work that they do, it's not worth the emotional damage by people who think they are better than everyone they are suppose to support. Even now, I'm sure they will read this and make excuses on how it's all my own issues. Sorry, I'm not here to make you comfortable.

Take HR complaints seriously. You should have helped by given resources. Instead you did nothing but insinuate and blame my disability for the terrible treatment I got at work. Shame on you for ever making me feel like it was my fault.

Supportive and flexible culture

The leadership team has changed quite a bit during my years at IV. What has not changed is the continued support and flexibility I have to do my job, take on new projects and learn new things. The company has introduced new programs that can be attended in person or virtually. Most people have roles that don't require being on site every day. I appreciate IV’s culture more than the larger technology companies at which I worked previously.
