|
To those of you that are looking at a potential job opportunity please make sure that you read this along with some of the other recent reviews that have been written about this organization. On the exterior, this company touts itself as this "dynamic, technology-driven and environmentally responsible company," that is an "industry-leader." In reality the company is an ego trip for its CEO and runs based on whatever whim he fancies that day. On their website, they claim that "Managers are easily accessible, new ideas are encouraged, teamwork is prevalent, and individual achievement is recognized and rewarded." All of this couldn't be further from the truth. Leadership is rarely, if ever in the office, disappearing for days at a time. Everything seems like it is being done adhoc, without any rhyme or reason. One day things will be done one way and the next day direction will be given to do the exact opposite. The only ideas that are encouraged are the ideas of the CEO and his lackeys. If anyone outside of that "inner circle" brings something up, they are summarily dismissed and viewed as dissenters with the company, jeopardizing their future with the organization. No one works as a team in this company, it's a free for all, with leadership pitting individuals and departments versus each other in some sort of sick and twisted human chess game. Individual accomplishment isn't rewarded, in fact, it's viewed negatively. Anything that draws attention away from the company CEO is viewed negatively. This company is simply a vanity project for him and everything that is done is to stroke his delicate ego. There is no transparency within the organization and there are grandiose plans that are shared, but nothing ever happens.
In order to be "technology-driven" one would think that the organization would have to have come up with something new during its almost 12 years. That assumption would basically be wrong, the product is essentially the same product that was launched when the company was founded. When they have a "new" product, it's simply a change in form, not in function. Also, changing the unit color doesn't make the product new.
Please be careful when exploring career opportunities at this company, there is a reason that they have had so much turnover over the years, and it's not due to growing pains, as they attempt to say. The good people leave or are forced out.

From day one it’s nothing but self-aggrandizing in the press for this small company.
The IGHT online glowing reviews for this company mostly have been directed and asked for to combat their insane employee turnover.
IGHT likes to claim they are a young startup company, truth is that they have been in business for over a decade.
IGHT likes to call themselves a fast paced company, from the inside this only means they are very pushing with their employees and suppliers for no real reason.
IGHT claims to have large growth, but yet appeared on tv recently claiming to have filed for covid relief loans to rehire employees that were laid off due to lower demand, all while the “we’re hiring banner” has appeared in front of the Galesburg facility for approximately two years.
IGHT Put out news release in late 2010 that they were moving from their incubator space in Peoria Illinois into an incubator space in Galesburg Illinois and plan to hire 144 employees by 2014, of which workers will earn $20-$25 an hour: They reached a peak and have maintained 40 or less employees (including regional sales people) and shop assemblies, tech’s and testers earn less than $20 per hour. Company still does not own their own facility.
IGHT News release in 2020 that company is moving headquarters to Chicago and starting an office with a staff of 20: rumor now has it’s been put on hold due to lower product demand, this move is only because a top official wants to relocate, in all reality this office will have no more than 5 employees, once again embellishment.
IGHT Also reports in press releases of the companies small “hub” in Austin, Texas: This “hub” consists of one person, again a top official wanted to relocate.
Company boast of leading edge technology, tankless water heaters have been around since the 1970’s, Intellihot designs their own heat exchanger and puts 1-12 in one cabinet to operate industrial and commercial buildings, their electronics mimic that of a nest thermostat, nothing truly groundbreaking or cutting edge here, they are not “disrupting” the industry, or whichever trade magazine current buzz word happens to be used. In fact they are not even in the top 20 tankless water heater producers in the USA.
IGHT has a moto of being built in the heartland/USA, they are indeed assembled and shipped from Illinois, however all components are purchased largely from overseas.
Company often boasts in the media that they hold over 60 design patents, the large majority of these patents are from the top official’s previous employment, but yet hang on the wall at IGHT.
The company makes claim of mismatched employees and growing pains, this is to cover for their very high turnover rate of skill set employees, these employees are NOT mismatched, they were indeed hired for their specific skill set and position, they were fired for wanting to improve things, not agreeing with decisions being made or frustrated with the ever changing direction and lack of organization. For a company of 40 or less employees the turnover rate has been 25-40% year after year. IGHT only seeks loyalist followers that will not question or try to give constructive critizium, all decisions from the top are to be accepted with cheer and glee and no other opinions will be tolerated. you have to be willing to accept and go along with the BS coming from the top to fit into this company and not be fired.
IGHT has never had an organizational chart, officials change too often and roles are constantly changing to ever create one. IGHT has never developed any company standards, practices, specifications, corporate policy or mission statement, top officials do not understand SCRUM meeting framework but yet call their meetings SCRUM.
The grand success of IGHT are a façade, the BS stories from the top official are always self aggrandizing.
Embellishment from the top official is the name of the game at IGHT.
Product Reviews: At first looks you will notice oddly rounded feet on each cabinet, this does not look very robust and in fact it looks as if you could tip it right over, there are no mounting provisions on these feet, you have to make your own, if they are bolted down to metal in an outside environment rusting often takes place.
You will notice an outer touch screen, this screen is very prone to leakage and UV rays
You will notice a plastic door on these units, these can easily be pried open with a screw driver, turn locks on side panels that are easy to turn with about any tool, the unit is just not very secure.
You will notice there are no lifting devices designed anywhere on the unit, it’s not structurally sound enough to be lifted from the top, it has to be lifted from the bottom.
Units have oddly inadequate assembly hardware, very small Philips head screws, very strange choice, heads easily strip out with power tools.
IGHT promotes themselves as a green technology energy company, all their heaters are gas fired and produce emissions, oddly no IGHT products are electric.
Units are bright orange and grey, not really something that will blend into anyone’s home or business utility room or rooftop.

casual dress, flex hours, assembly employees are nice and hard working considering their are underpaid.

fickle owner causes toxic work environment for all employees.
you can't be creative, suggestive or point out design problems as the ceo has a large ego that is easily bruised and retaliation will happen, it's not a collaborative effort.
your wasting your time to come up with solutions if it's not what the owner wants, and he won't remember any decisions that is made in meetings that he's part of.
ceo often reports exaggerated success, and keeps employees uninformed on issues.
they have no desire to stream line assembly and make necessary improvements,
keeps employees in the dark on issues
everyone plays the blame game.
the top two refuse to communicate in anything but person to person, thus leaving no trail of decisions and directions that they inform people, often times leaving out important people, this leaves them unaccountable when things don't go well and then they claim they don't remember.

Smaller company, so you get to fill many roles and gain a wide breadth of experience in a short amount of time

Benefits: anything that could be skimped on, was.
Insane turnover. Throughout my one year I saw at least 5 people get walked out on Friday's without any warning to anyone, which is a considerable percentage of people for how small this company is. I also got the same treatment 3 days before my one year mark.
Definite nepotism among management with their choice of marketing director.
Lack of direction for existing and new products: everyday there was a new "top priority" and therefore nothing was "completed" on time.
Decisions were mostly based off of mimicking top tech and not any actual innovation, customer feedback, or data.

Great company! Really can't say enough of it. Very work friendly, flexible schedule if you need it will give you time off. Great people to work with here, the floor has a great crew lots of hard workers. The office is filled with smart and helpful people who are great at their jobs.

Company is run by two brilliant engineers who invented the tankless water heaters that this company sells. They take a lot of pride in their products and are very focused on continuously improving their product lineup.
The environment of the company is great for self-starters and people who have a lot of drive and initiative to be strong individual contributors.
The company generously rewards top performers.

The company does not have much of a middle management layer. Employees that need a lot of mentoring may feel a bit overwhelmed due to the fast pace of the work environment.

Management do not know how to deal with people. Empowering people, providing guidance and being open to ideas is a hallmark of good management. Intellihot upper management hover between micromanagement and total neglect. One manager comes in the officer less than once a week .
