Company accepts old ways as the norm, good work/life balance

-Not micromanaged, autonomy to solve problems and implement solutions given
-Large team to call on for additional support & advice
-Many systems to learn and support, will take years to become proficient in the environment
-Reasonable IT budget to purchase the things most needed
-Work from home options
-iPhone & laptop provided
-IT team, with the exception of the lone DBA, are all very friendly and easy to interact with

-Does not follow industry standards
-Does not utilize basic native administrative tools (GPOs, login scripts, etc)
-Little automation in place
-Much technical debt accrued (many server 2003, vSphere 5.5, Exchange 2010, AD 2008, 100mbit Cisco switches, aging infrastructure)
-Very difficult to get any meaningful "keys t the kingdom". It's as if current employees technically knowledgeable are punished for poor demonstrated administration decision executed by former employees.
-Culture of manual work instead of automation. Menial tasks automated, important larger tasks (systems imaging, SW deployment/update/removal) still manually executed.
-1-5% yearly "raise" + bonus. I say "raise" because the average 3% (anything higher than 3/5 on performance reviews is mythical) is negated by the cost of inflation, making it not a raise but a yearly cost of living compensation increase.
-High turnover of management staff (though not in IT)
-Glaring security holes completely disregarded!!! (Excuse given typically revolves around deferring to 5th Column security vendor)
-Few people on the infrastructure & engineering teams script
-Majority of infrastructure job is tier 1-2 helpdesk work, with basic sysadmin work sprinkled in
-Networking team is an under-qualified 1-man operation (but super friendly!)

Overtime when we had it, safety good when we had a job, double time on weekends ( if you didn't miss time during the week). Did get a bit of a continuance (not a severance lump sum) by staying to the bitter painful ( morgue-like) end. Some very good people to work with, most of what we needed was always ordered ( inserts, guages, etc.).

More interested in going to all Chinese products and shutting down the Canadian Operation (in Edmonton). Nothing for Christmas, no turkey, no bonus, no card, a few days off on your own dime.
