It’s a flexible schedule kind of job, telecommuting and 9/80 schedule. 401K is a 100% match!

You are not truly heard and the culture needs to be addressed as many are feeling unappreciated

Leadership is destroying the organization
|
|
Great work life balance, fantastic members and dedicated staff.
|
The CEO and international board of directors are destroying the organization, They only focus on their pet projects, will spend ridiculous amounts on international board meetings in Hong Kong and London and other perks for volunteer leaders. Recent re-organization that lead to lay offs of many long time dedicated staff. Departments that lost significant amounts of revenue in recent years, did not loose positions, while departments that made the organization money, lost most of their staff/positions for outsourcing. The global board of directors needs to have the guts to do what is necessary and get rid of senior leadership and find a CEO and executive committee that knows and cares about the organization, it's members and staffs rather than taking care of themselves. The organization also has too many directors. The re-organization a year ago was extremely destructive.

IFMA is one of the best small companies that an employee can work for. There are many opportunities for employees to engage in personal and professional growth. The organization provides a significant number of professional development opportunities. The CEO is visionary and has done an amazing job of transforming the organization since his arrival. Staff truly care about the organization and it's members. Members are extremely dedicated to the organization. Senior management has been progressive in investing in IT systems and hardware to support staff needs.
IFMA struggles with articulating the goals and vision in an accessible way for staff. Staff feel overwhelmed by the volume of work and change, leading to frustration, disengagement, and failure to perform. IFMA frequently short-changes the planning and goal measurement activities resulting in "now now now" projects with lofty goals. Every 6 to 9 months a new project arrives. Measuring all activities against value to the member would help in aligning these activities and producing measurable results. Significant technical debt exists and inadequate time or resources are available to eliminate this debt. New projects get priority over addressing known issues that drag on performance and results.
IFMA is a small organization that provides opportunities for lower level staff to advance. Because it is a small organization there are not opportunities for senior advancement. The CEO is open about this and encourages staff to do what is right for them, which sometimes means moving on. This is commendable and uncommon in most companies.
Likewise the work / life balance is generally good, but can be stressful at times. IFMA offers a 9/80 program that permits employees to have every other Friday off. In addition there are floating holidays, a personal day, several Federal holidays and staff activity days. IFMA offers an amazing amount of paid time off coupled with some of the best insurance benefits I've ever seen.
Change is often traumatic for organizations and particularly for employees. IFMA has done an excellent job of minimizing the impact to staff. Nonetheless, some staff are resistant to change.
Overall, IFMA is a well run organization that provides a wealth of opportunities. IFMA is one of the few companies that strives to be fair and decent to it's employees.

Executive leadership needs a serious wake up call
|
|
flexible work schedule, 401k and match, benefits.
|
Severe lack of support and accountability from executive leadership. Top-down operations meaning "the little guys" constantly get the brunt of hasty decision making and poor communications. Attempts at trying to "address" organizational issues are laughable and the core problems have not even been discussed. There is an open door policy, but many employees do not feel comfortable being the one to open that can of worms. Advice and recommendations from employees are not taken seriously.

Please wake up and realize there are numerous issues that need to be addressed and there needs to be accountability for failed projects and bad decision making. Executive leadership needs to spend more time on the ground understanding what the support staff goes through prior to making decisions and implementing sudden changes.

Flexible work schedule; professional development; autonomy; scope of work increases as productivity, performance and individual growth is attained.

Employees don't always support one another, sense of ownership and entitlement around work, processes and lack of knowledge sharing.

My advice isn't to management but to employees or potential employees. This association is growing, learning agile technique, stretching staff to go beyond the status quo, encouraging innovation and has an open door policy. When mutual understanding of employee/employer relationship is met its an awesome experience; you can learn from others and be part of projects that aren't in your daily routine.
