Bad Training, lots of confusion, not a lot of loyalty

Tech company in a small town, benefits were nice.
|
Executives brought in from outside, little internal promotion. Business Development was a lot of cold calling without much support from marketing. I left after a few years , there was too much backstabbing on the sales team and too little spine from management to correct the major HR issues on a competitive sales team. Toxic employees were protected and promoted while everyone else was forced to jump through inane hoops.

Keep being awesome!
Don't mix consultants into client trainings and tell them to wait until after class is over to actually begin learning. Bite the bullet and dedicate a valuable resource to only train consultants 30-40 hours a week. Train in classes of 2-6 and hold their hands until they can order to cash and procure to pay with their eyes closed, THEN unleash the mind numbing training on them. I felt like I had no real foundation until after implementation training which was after I had been watching videos and attending client trainings for TWO months.
My training was sufficient, but I think you could save a lot of money by shortening the training period and dedicating a resource. I'm not sure how others felt, but the client trainings I attended felt like a huge waste of time, because I'm not a client, I'm a consultant.

-Location, size, fun parties, lots of holidays off.
|
* They underpay certain positions here, especially developers.
* They pay bonuses 9 months+ late. Not guaranteed and have to be there over a year.
* People are promoted, but paid their new salary months later (with backpay).
* Yearly reviews are given months late.
* HR doesnt seem to do anything about complaints.
* They still use whether you used sick days as a basis for performance/getting a raise.
* Very vertical organization with few people in charge of much of the company.
* Hourly workers are illegally paid salary and are not paid overtime.
* The core software and technology is extremely outdated.

Be more transparent and willing to change. You need to be more competitive with other software companies in the area in areas such as compensation, culture, flexibility, and benefits if you want to attract young, talented individuals. Pay bonuses on time or don't promise them at all.

- Benefits are better than any other job I have had.
- Workplace is nice, comfortable, open, and always kept clean and tidy
- All of my coworkers are fantastic!

Middle management is somewhat weak. Reviews take a bit long to get done but when raises are approved they are always backdated to the original review/anniversary date.

-management feigns is appreciation for its people - parties and snacks are not what we are looking for. Authentic, regular recognition and appreciation is absent. If management cared, reviews would be on time, bonuses would be addressed in a timely manner, departments wouldn’t be slammed due to management being too busy to sign the forms to get employees moved in.
-reviews for support late - as late as 8 months for some
-review structure said to be in place but no one knows where they currently rate within this alleged structure they are being evaluated upon
-depts are slammed and employees waiting to move into these depts held up by management that is too busy to make it happen
-poor communication from supervisors and management

They are driving out employees with changes

-The people I work with are fun
- Free healthcare, who knows how long this will last though
|
-Bonuses are long gone, they have pretty much eliminated the billable bonus for Consultants. It used to be 10% of your billable hours, then without having anyone sign anything they changed that last July. They made it so you needed to be billable 65% of the time for 50% of the bonus and 75% of the time for 100% of the bonus. If you took a weeks vacation, you pretty much eliminated you bonus chances as vacation days count against you.
They have now limited the bonus to $15,000 a year or about 1/2 of what it was. I can't see many talented consultants sticking around for this type of pay cut.
