A once great American company that needs to get their management priorities straight or will be lost... Good pay. Good employees. Decent insurance. Work station for QEs is directly on shop floor. I have many many years working for this company and there was never anything like this There's no a single reason to work Here anymore. Few people are taking this place to failure. Because of favoritism to one and other. NO VACATION, NO GOOD PAY AND BAD Administration. That's why they can't hire good KNOWLEDGEABLE people anymore. Always making bad decisions buying multimillion equipment that they can't even fit into the building. And no body gets accountable for all the bad decisions. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 DISAPPROVE 0.0 1.0 1.0 2.0 2.0 1.0 1.0 17111 Open Leave favoritism aside. Focus on company truly needs. private:jacobsvehiclesystems https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=17111 Oct 11th, 2017 12:00AM Open Open Jacobs Vehicle Systems Operations United States USA Set up for Failure by Management. Glad to be Gone. - Lean Manufacturing environment. Good opportunities to learn lean terminologies. - Interesting technology. - Good place to gain manufacturing experience. - No training or mentorship for new hires. You are given a standard work sheet and asked to deliver. - Zero focus on quality. Management focus only on getting parts out to the customer. When defects are found, management blames the engineers and junior staff. - "A LOT" of favoritism in every department. If you have a good relationship with your VP/Manager or you've been in the company for more than 5 yrs, you can get away with literally anything like coming in late and leaving early, taking an hour and a half lunch break (I feel bad for the hourly guys), or not meeting deadlines, or calling out sick but actually out on a day trip. You can do all this but still have a fantastic review and get a pay hike. So just be good to your Ops Managers or Production Supervisors. - Human Resources has very little or zero focus on "human resources". Absolutely ZERO focus on employee needs and issues. I'm sorry but my experience with HR has never been so bad. I'm sure many still working in the company feel the same. The only time they come out of their air conditioned quiet cabins is when they want employees to take the annual survey. - Management team are usually warned by engineers, technicians or operators about an issue with either a part or an equipment that needs a permanent fix, but the focus is on "bandaiding" the issue, not fixing it. However, management is usually the first to blame when theres a customer issue. What about when you were warned. - I would not recommend a fresh graduate to join the company. Managers at JVS are not capable to provide guidance or mentorship one needs to be successful. Either they don't have time or they just don't care. But they will blame you or put you on a performance improvement plan, again accompanied with more blame and non-constructive criticism. You are not trained and allowed to make mistakes, but everyone expects you to deliver good results. No peace of mind or work life balance. Constantly felt under-appreciated and over-worked. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 DISAPPROVE 4.0 1.0 1.0 2.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 17111 Open Care for your employees. Treat each employee fairly and promote internally based on skills, not on the basis of the number of years the person has been with a company. Focus on employee development and people who actually want to learn, grow and build a career. Inspire fresh talent and out-of-box thinking. Company has a long way to go as far as employee satisfaction is concerned. 0.0
Thank you for commenting on our Glassdoor profile. We appreciate you taking the time to voice your thoughts and views on our business.

I regret to hear your experience was less than adequate relating to the training you received. Our HR team has worked diligently over the past year to create a robust immersion process. This process is tailored for each employee to ensure we have identified the correct training opportunities. Additionally, each new employee is provided with a mentor to guide the employee through the onboarding process. Our goal is to set employees up for a successful career at JVS.

In addition to a focus on onboarding, and as a result of recent engagement feedback, we have assembled a team dedicated to providing training and development opportunities across the organization. Employees are provided with educational resources and receive invitations to webinars and workshops on various topics relative to enhancing both personal and professional skills. We strongly believe these training and development efforts will continue to help build talent within our workforce and enable us to promote internally.

In reference to your quality concerns, I assure you this is a top priority and major focus area for our business. As a company that focuses on continuous improvement, we follow a problem-solving process to address and correct issues if they arise. Temporary countermeasures are put into place to make an immediate change to ensure customers are not impacted, however, this could be perceived as the “band aid” effect. The next step is to identify a long-term strategy, or permanent countermeasure, to ensure we have reached the root cause of the issue to prevent it from reoccurring. This process has been effective for us for many years, but understandably, permanent measures can take time to implement.

We appreciate your feedback and hope our efforts are seen by existing and future employees.

Best of luck to you.

Sebastian
No No 0.0 Mar 12th, 2021 05:12PM Mar 12th, 2021 05:12PM Jacobs Vehicle Systems

We are pleased to hear that you are seeing changes over time, and we will continue to focus our efforts around engagement. You mentioned a focus on increasing the physical score versus lasting change. However, I want to assure you that we view the scores as a measurement of the extent to which employees feel valued and a part of a team. The engagement survey is a way for employee to voice their opinions, and we are acting based upon this feedback. We use the scores to narrow down the areas of opportunity and pursue the critical few to focus our attention. This year we have taken engagement one step further by encouraging all managers to create individualized action plans for their teams. This approach is another way to provide fair and balanced treatment amongst the entire employee population.

As part of the engagement process, we are making strong efforts to increase leadership visibility and direct interaction on the shop floor. Over the past several months, we have made strides to have more facetime on the floor. We’ve also made efforts to show how appreciative we are of our associates who go above and beyond, whether this be with our core value awards or thanking those who travelled to work during a snow storm. I hope that you have seen the progress over time, and we will take this feedback as another opportunity to increase the frequency of interactions.
