- Feels like a startup but a stable company with opportunity to make great impact
- Good work/life balance
- Opinions are highly valued from all team members
- Full remote, optionally hybrid work culture

- Joist has been doing well and should get out of startup mindset which means spend more time on addressing tech debt that has been accumulated over the years

I love how Joist's app helps hundreds of thousands of small and medium sized contractors manage their businesses. We have a fantastic flexible culture (remote, half day summer Fridays) It's great working at a small company with the resources and stability of its parent company.

The engineering team at Joist are highly skilled, communicate with ease and work together well to accomplish our goals. There are no big ego's or hero-programmers at Joist. Everyone's opinion is respected and taken into account when making eng decisions and everyone is expected to work at a high-level. There are plenty of opportunities to collaborate and learn from other team members. It's the best team I've ever been a part of!

A smaller team means you must be able to work independently and to solve difficult problems on your own (though help is always available if needed). This means you must take on a sense of responsibility over the project and large parts of the codebase. The onboarding was a bit rough as there was not a dedicated lead or process in place when I joined, which meant lots of opportunity to improve the process!
