Best if you are a single lawyer with no kids or an older one whose kids are out of the house.
|
There is not enough honest communication between the attorneys and not nearly enough guidance from several associates. Not enough involvment, trust or respect given to staff in general but particularly paralegals or project coordinators. Meetings are conducted without input from people who should absolutely be there. Several events occur regularly for counsel during and after hours but staff is never invited.
Any paralegal or legal assistant knows that often a full work week is not enough time to accomplish the billable hour quota and complete the large amount of admininstrative work that is required as part of your job so you're set up to fail.

Attorneys seem to be treated very well.
|
If you're legal or project staff you might want to look somewhere else.

I enjoyed the challenging nature of the position. Every day is different and you learn a lot. What I didn't enjoy was how demanding it got and how little by little the work/life balance started to diminish.

Excellent work and training. Some bad people some good.

One boss was great as above, a true brilliant and caring mentor. The other was an emotional abuser. Vicious, small, and petty, she would break me down for weeks each day, yelling, name calling, public humiliation. It got worse as time went on. Management is all about $$$ and naught else.

Management Committee, which makes the business decisions for the company, has no regard for staff or the attorneys who they support. Support staff are just cogs in a wheel. If you remain too long under the mistaken belief that you will retire from this company, you may be in for a rude awakening. After years of service, when you have accrued maximum vacation benefits and are at the top of the pay scale, you will be cut loose despite exemplary performance reviews. You will then be replaced with new faces. I do regret having wasted so much of my working career at this cesspool of a law firm when I could have been using my education and talents working at a company with higher regard for its employees.

Slow paced with condescending manager and supervisor.

The managers/supervisors are incapable of giving constructive criticism or even answering a question without patronizing.
The manager would rather use the office cc to go out to lunch every week instead of using those funds to improve office morale.
A typical day at work is extremely slow paced and boring but they still treat you like you are incompetent.
The most enjoyable part of the job is the free time you have which gets boring very quick.
