From my observation and in my own experience there is lot of wellbeing washing, not much support from management level, very chaotic work, not much benefits, not much growth opportunities (you can only do it yourself in your own time), no matter how great you progress the compensation review is set in stone for everyone and a joke amount

A Disheartening Journey at Kahoot

The product is great, but the trust to be able to market the product properly - from senior management - just isn't there.

Working for Kahoot, the parent company of Drops, was a far cry from the positive experience I initially anticipated. Despite high expectations, my time under Kahoot was marked by numerous disappointments and challenges. 1. Serious Micromanagement: One of the most glaring issues at Kahoot was the pervasive micromanagement from senior leadership. There was a distinct lack of trust in employees' abilities to complete their work competently. Employees often found themselves subject to last-minute changes and were given mere hours to redo their work, creating an atmosphere of constant stress and uncertainty. 2. Push for Office Return: Kahoot made a forceful push for employees to return to the office without providing any compelling reasons beyond their extravagant office amenities. The investment in lavish offices, complete with daily delivered lunches, stocked fridges, freezers filled with snacks, ice creams, beers, soft drinks, and even regular fresh flower deliveries, seemed excessive and disconnected from the needs of remote workers. 3. Misalignment with Target Audience: Kahoot claimed to be a popular product in the Gen-Z space, yet paradoxically, the company stifled the team's efforts to effectively market to this demographic. Excessive censorship on social media content and a focus on pandering to investors and older generations, who were not the primary audience, resulted in a significant decline in social media performance across all accounts. 4. Censorship of Critical Issues: Kahoot's management exhibited a concerning trend of censoring important issues. This was particularly evident in their approach to LGBTQIA+ and other social issues, where initial support seemed to wane under external pressures, undermining the credibility of the company's commitment to inclusivity. 5. Lack of Transparency and Communication: Communication from senior leadership regarding changes and decisions within the company was often lacking. Team members were sometimes forced to relocate without prior notice or explanation. 6. Overwhelming Workload: I found myself wearing multiple hats, juggling responsibilities that ranged from social media management and creative direction to graphic design and paid ads management, all while receiving compensation that did not reflect the scope of my work. 7. No Rehiring: Despite a significant number of departures during my time, Drops failed to rehire for vacant positions, especially within Growth Marketing, creating an unsustainable workload for the remaining team members. 8. Unreliable Line Managers and Senior Management: senior management frequently failed to attend meetings, which hindered progress and decision-making, causing frustration among the employees. 9. Contractor Mistreatment: Contractors were expected to work like employees, shouldering a full workload without receiving employee benefits. Despite promises of potential employment, the company ultimately relied on the vague excuse of "business need" to determine whether contractors would be offered full employment, leaving many in precarious positions.
