With headquarters in Gurgaon, India and London, UK, and remote employees across the globe, this is especially important. Kayakers from the UK and India regularly visit each other’s offices and the culture exchange is edifying.
The company are also great on transparency. No number or process is kept deliberately secret. If something isn’t stated explicitly in writing or in a company-wide presentation, you only need ask.
The flexible nature of the organisation means there is enormous opportunity to participate in any initiative that interests you. The nature of the product and industry also ensures there are loads of meaty technical challenges up and down the stack.
In terms of compensation Kayako are very competitive. Their philosophy is basically “between you (the candidate) and us, we’ll try to determine an objective market rate for your role and skills, and that’s where we’ll start”.
Finally, everyone who works at Kayako is dedicated and genuinely lovely.

Kayako’s structural flexibility means that sometimes, if you want an established process or chain of command, it’s up to you to help devise and instate it.
There is always a *lot* going on, so making sure you’re communicating effectively with everyone affected by your work is challenging.
Kayako’s up against some serious competition (Intercom, Zendesk, etc.) which can be motivating and dispiriting in equal measure.
New work can tend to appear in the queue without much warning. This has improved lately with the adoption of 6-week cycles and autonomous feature teams.

Great culture with a promising future. Everyone is committed and the environment is extremely collaborative. Really, very few silos. Every team works together and gives their best effort.

Calibre of the team is very high, and could achieve a lot more individually and together if there was more focus and picking fewer things to do at once, but do them well.

Much is made of "mass firings" here by former disgruntled employees. There are no mass firings. You let go of some toxic people and forces in the company who were taking advantage of your good nature. The whole company supported that decision and Kayako has become a leaner, brighter place to work since then. Have confidence in a direction and don't lose your approachability!

Great intentions, hands on management

The senior team are very hands on - they've got a clear vision for the company which is regularly communicated. Really impressive and important in a remote company.
Learning and self-improvement is hugely encouraged, so if you're motivated to do so you'll learn a lot here.
The London office is well stocked with treats and beers, and it's a very social atmosphere. Team lunches and team beers are a regular occurrence and the offices are pleasant.
The company is very ambitious and driven and so are the people who work here.

Perfectionism from the senior team can lead to decisions taking far too long to be made, and a culture of competitiveness can lead to a sense that nothing is ever good enough.
Transparency is great but means that too many voices can make it difficult to get a straight answer.
There aren't many experienced people in the company, so mentoring has to be sought outside the company or from what you read in books/online.
