It is such a great feeling to be EXCITED to go to work in the morning. The atmosphere at the agency is so positive and collaborative. I feel very fortunate to be a part of such a smart, creative and talented team. I have learned so much during my time here. Our leadership team believes in the importance of work/life balance and are big proponents of civic engagement and continuing professional education.

In my role at KGBTexas, I am supported, given opportunities to grow, encouraged to share opinions and recognized for my hard work. The tone is set by Katie Harvey, the CEO, and carried out by the department directors and VPs. Leadership here is smart, but not arrogant; professional but not stuffy. I'm glad I joined the KGBTexas team.

As with any agency, KGBTexas has its downsides. For the most part, they are no different or any more frequent than what I've experienced in other agencies: short deadlines, difficult clients, limited budgets, etc. All of that is to be expected in agency life.

A wonderful place to grow in your career

I've never been part of a team that is so supportive, but KGBTexas has certainly set the bar. The team is comprised of some of the most wonderful people I've been able to work alongside. I'm a fan of the leadership team and how they set the standard for our work. I don't plan on ever leaving because I've found a place where I am appreciated as a person - not just a dispensable employee.

Fear promoted more than clients

Great slogans and great ideas come from every direction. After all, that's what they are about and true to it despite the harm done to the hard-working, smart people who make it so. Half-day Fridays have to be earned by working long days Monday, long days Tuesday, even longer days Wednesday, and deadly days Thursday when you've definitely earned that Thirsty Thursday drink for sure. Take work home with you, come in early, leave late, skip lunch, don't eat at your desk, and watch your mouth and the way you dress (because both will be criticized if you aren't careful). She's very loyal to her business friends and clients, just not her employees and the people who keep those clients coming back. It's a shame because the potential for greatness and excellence is cut short by leadership who doesn't walk the walk or talk the talk.

High turnover, corporate thinkers, not a family-friendly or inviting place. Fear-based environment with autocratic leadership horrendously short-sighted. Horrendous work environment, intolerable for many, hence the reason employees jump ship before the learning curve is passed. Work at any cost. Don't give personal excuses for missing a deadline. Leadership is leaderless. If you have a thick skin, coat it with leather a few more times because that's what it will take to survive this workplace. The CEO, smart person, creative and driven, just not caring or friendly. Will throw an employee under the bus in front of a client and won't blink or second guess it. If you've got great ideas and talent, invest it elsewhere because you won't get far in this company. Even if you work hard, serve your clients' interests well, make tons of money for the CEO, your work won't get rewarded. You won't get the credit or the praise. If you don't mind being a grunt worker who lines the pockets of an already very rich woman who likes to flaunt her wealth, horses, vacations and nice homes, then this might be a good fit for you.
