I really loved working here! KSL attracts such good vibey type people. The owners were awesome. Always learning something new. The hardest part was the stress that comes with working with kiddos (especially during coronavirus)

Fun and Engaging Work
|
I worked at KSL full time for about 2 years, it is a genuinely fun place to work. No day is the same, and I love that we get to explore fun questions alongside our students. Classes are structured to facilitate a fun and engaging environment for students. KSL is unlike any other option available to students, and you can feel that the moment you walk into a KSL. Kids are so curious and we get to help them connect with that curiosity. I have worked in museums, traditional classrooms, and even other after school programs, and no place has felt like KSL. Kids, parents and teachers LOVE being here.
Staff is offered countless opportunities on a weekly basis to learn best teaching and leadership practices and also allow us to connect and collaborate with teachers and other staff members across all of the centers. KSL is growing quickly so there is lots of opportunity for teachers to be a part of the growth.
KSL Leadership cares deeply about their employees and listens to concerns we have in regards to making improvements. They want us to be the best teachers in the world offering the most engaging hands-on classes ever, and have developed the training and curriculum to back it up.
However, It is not easy work and requires teachers, assistants, and front desk staff to be very adaptable, definitely not the right fit for someone just looking for any job.
There are some growing pains and learning curves as new systems come into place to allow for new centers, but in the long run these systems are necessary to allow for efficiency at volume.

Very Fun and Educational Experience

Management was amazing, and the job itself was very fun and rewarding. Only reason I left was because it was a temporary role, and the location was a bit far!

A fun environment with impossible expectations
|
KSL has a wonderful environment designed to foster fun in the classroom, but this comes at the expense of the teaching staff. As an assistant I was expected to manage up to 3 classrooms simultaneously, a nigh impossible task when multiple classes needed help at the same time.

The company expects too much out of its teachers, with too few resources to assist them.

Profiteers with a veneer of education
|
For all the talk about teaching and education and a kid-centric approach, the truth is this organization seeks only to duplicate the mental image the owners have of their business. It's not a bad image, but it's an impossible standard to meet and you're always guessing as to what management wants. Fun and exciting stops being fun and exciting when it becomes less a function of the job and space and more a demand placed on employees.

If you like working with kids it is an amazing place to look into
|
The day started at 8am every day and ended at around 5pm every day so there are very consistent hours. If you you want to teach science topics to kids, this is the place in Chicago do it.

So fun but very stressful

Working at Kids Science Labs is great, but you can't do it forever. The students and how much they love it make it worth it, and keep you going. However, the combination of growing pains, unrealistic classroom expectations, and overwhelming job responsibilities make it hard to picture yourself there long term.
