Excellent start up that has turned a corner
|
|
I have been working at Kinetica for over two years. When I started we were doing pretty well (on the outside) but it felt more like a lumbering corporate company than a nimble startup, weighed down by a lot of marketing buzzwords (whole lotta hot air) and an enterprise led growth strategy.
Things went sour pretty rapidly as covid hit. And we had to go through a few rounds of layoffs and leadership changes.
But we have turned it around over the last year thanks to excellent leadership, a shift to a more open developer oriented strategy and improvement in the usability of the product (and a lot of hard work from a lot of committed folks). We just closed on our best quarter yet and it feels like we are on the cusp of a remarkable period of growth.
The tougher times have also had a cleansing effect on culture. There is more straight talk and its brought everyone closer and made it a far more collaborative environment.

Terrible management. They have been sued for putting new mothers on PIPs the day they get back to work from Maternity Leave. Their application, has so many bugs, is crazy, and the devs are overworked, don't have time to close bugs. They change CEO like you change your underwear. Forget about work-life balance, 1 engineer doing 3 peoples work. And if they find a cheaper engineer that can do the job, then they will fire the other one for not "meeting their expectations". Had massive lay offs and some point because "investors backed off", with no prior indication to workers or indication of funds not being enough. The worse.

Getting behind your manager bad choices also reflects on what kind of person the upper management is. Kinetica went from being a decent company to have no scruples doing business. Jewish, hispanics, african-americans, and female engineers have been treated like trash. All those stories will see the light of the day, one day, when you least expect it. And maybe then you will be forced to do something or not. Up to you.
