- if you like fast-paced environments, Kinsa is great. New opportunities to make meaningful impact arise seemingly daily - if you like the challenge of taking in lots of information, quickly assessing, and making decisions, you'll like it here.
- incredibly smart *and* kind people. I learn constantly from my peers at Kinsa, and in so many areas: data, business reporting, product development, epidemiology, education, etc. Everyone I've met in my 6 months here has been truly kind - checking in on each other, taking the time to connect, approaching relationships with thoughtfulness.
- growth seems endless, both for the company and for individual career. In just 6 months, my responsibilities and impact have scaled significantly, as has the company from both a business and mission perspective.
- My work has clear, direct impact on peoples lives and livelihoods. We see the quantitative and anecdotal evidence every day. It makes me immensely proud to work here and gives my job deep meaning.
- Company leadership is transparent. They are all extremely mission-driven, which makes for aligned executive leadership and minimizes politics.

- if you don't like change, you won't like it here, at least not right now.
- work-life balance can feel hard - though management is considerate and encourages work-life balance, there can be guilt / difficulty shutting off because the work has such clear, immediate impact in the public space.
- cross-functional teams can feel disconnected at times, even if they are working on the same priorities. Not sure if this is because I have yet to meet any of my colleagues, or if it is an issue others experience, too.

- keep hiring diverse, talented, kind people, even if they don't have all of the experience traditionally required.
- make yourselves more visible to the org, especially during the pandemic. For new folks in particular, it's hard to feel connected with leadership when there is no access to them, even by the watercooler.

I've been with Kinsa for 2 years and love it more now than when I started. Small, start-up company who truly lives and breathes their mission. Everyone on the team is brilliant, kind, friendly. Even the CEO is happy to hop on a call with anyone to say hi and hear what's going well vs what's not. It really feels like the most genuine company I have ever worked for.

Based on some research, I do think I'm a little underpaid. I'm sure they would negotiate a raise with me but I have yet to bring it up.

I truly love working at Kinsa. Here are the reasons why:
1. A product and a mission I care about, believe in and can get behind. And most people at Kinsa do care about the mission and want to do good work so we can accomplish the mission./
2. Really wonderful people. Not only are my colleagues genuinely nice and friendly, but they are also super bright, good at their jobs and interesting. But they are also people who understand that sometimes things come up that require us all to be flexible and they are supportive if you need a personal day.
3. Startuppy - If you like being in a fast paced often changing environment, then Kinsa is great. If you're fine with ambiguity and many priorities that seem to compete with each other, Kinsa is great. I happen to like that and find it exciting.
4. Still learning - I've been at Kinsa several years now and stay because I continue to learn.

1. New remote work from home environment is making connecting with colleagues hard and Kinsa hasnt cracked the nut on how to make it better
2. The benefits are average - standard for a startup but if perks like catered lunch and high continuing ed budgets etc are important, then Kinsa isn't a great fit.
3. Cross team communication is challenging and leads to missed opportunities or unnecessary frustration.
4. They are working on their diversity and inclusion initiatives but there is room for improvement here.

- The work you do REALLY matters. Super cliche (especially in the startup world) but VERY true here. It's an incredible opportunity to change and improve public health. I'm proud of the work I do every day.
- Fun people. Even in an all-remote COVID environment, we have a great team, fun people and yes, even some work-life balance (a rarity in startups).
- Exciting growth and potential opportunities, both as a company and as an individual employee. It's a rocket ship and I'm so glad to have my seat on board. Kinsa values me as an employee and wants to help grow me, too.
- An executive team that truly cares. I continue to be pleasantly surprised by the executive team and their involvement and support. I had a family health crisis last year and the CEO called me personally to check in and pass along the company's (and his) thoughts and support.
- Transparency. Gotta love a company that regularly shares updates (wins AND losses).

Don't you hate reading reviews that have no cons and seem totally rose colored glasses? Me too! So I'll be real and honest - Kinsa does have some cons (spoiler: all companies do)
- It's a startup. It doesn't have the normal structure a bigger or more veteran company has. For me, I prefer this actually and truly thrive in this environment. However, it's not for everyone.
- Kinsa isn't Google, so the pay and benefits are not commensurate with Google. Seems obvious since it's a startup but based on another review I read, seems worth addressing. However, the pay is very fair and the company is very up front about what it can offer.
- Cross-team communication can be a challenge. I know the org is trying to improve this, but right now it is a little bit of a pain point.

I met some brilliant and lovely people working there.

RUN, RUN away! I’ve never experienced anything as insane and hypocritical as I have at this company. They claim to live by their “Mission” but only insofar as it serves the CEO. There is no one that actually serves in an HR function, and I know for certain that the company is in beach of HR law in multiple areas.
And in “regular” details….the pay is subpar, and the benefits are quite literally the worst I’ve ever had in my entire career. I knew within one month of being there that I’d made a terrible mistake and was out two months later. Save yourself the three months.

- This is a mission-driven startup with the goal to track and curb the spread of illness. It’s obvious that the leadership truly believes in this mission, and they have the talent and experience to make it happen.
- The company attracts friendly, down-to-earth, and fun people, who are motivated by the mission, rather than $. Everyone is very good at what they do, without having an ego (not a tech bro culture)
- As a small company, each individual is able to make a big impact, which makes working here exciting and rewarding
- While the work is fast-paced in the office, work-life balance is good (haven’t had to work late nights or weekends)
- Great culture, lots of team-building events (e.g. happy hours, kayaking/paddle boarding, pizza making, etc.)
- Chloe, the office (therapy) dog/company mascot, adds cuteness to the workplace and is always down for some cuddles

I loved this job.

Given that we are at work more than we are with our own families, it is really important to like what you do and who you do it with. I'm feel so happy to have found both at Kinsa. From the moment I started my employment, I felt like I had a prior history with my colleagues, everyone is so friendly and welcoming and helpful. And we worked on big problems with complex solutions, and everyone at the company cares about the work they do. Though I'm no longer at Kinsa, I would highly recommend it to anyone considering it. Great team, great work.

The "perks" aren't as impressive at other startups and tech companies in the city. That never mattered hugely to me, as long as all the basics were good (health insurance, vacation, parental leave, flexible work from home days).

- This is a mission-driven startup that has the business infrastructure to actually realize its vision. The minds behind every revenue-generating product are brilliant and tactical
- Employees bring way more experience than your typical startup. This means a few things: never alarmist about mistakes, lack of ego, immediate trust in new employees to make big decisions
- The current Office and Wellness Manager is a catalyst for great company cohesion. The team plays volleyball together weekly, stretches together at 3PM everyday and has lunch together every Friday (this is a shortlist of all-team activities)
- Flexible work environment; supportive of employees with families. Mat + pat leave have been institutionalized and used, regular WFH is acceptable as long as work quality remains stellar
- Great balance of focus and good-humor. The team operates out of a WeWork open office, but the space stays silent throughout most of the day. When people unplug to talk about something that's not work-related, everyone unplugs together. Look forward to really productive days with consistent moments of levity

Startup through-and-through - avoid working here if you're uncomfortable with setting your own goals and timelines, or expect to consistently work on high-level, strategic projects without occasionally working on day-to-day upkeep-type tasks

At the time at least, exciting opportunities to work on an innovative product and to gain experience with hardware, manufacturing, electrical engineering, etc.
A great team that was doing their best and executing in a challenging environment (internally and externally)

My experience matched the one described in the one star review posted on Oct 28, 2018 named "Manipulative and Unethical Leadership - stay away!" very closely. I had hoped that in the time since I left Kinsa they had grown up as an organization and changed their ways but clearly this has not happened.
If you're a software engineer looking to work at Kinsa know that prior to Kinsa the top management of this company had zero software experience and yet they had very strong opinions about how software development projects should be managed in ways that go against basic widely accepted practices.
One example that jumps to mind is explaining to the CEO that adding more engineers to an already late project often makes it even later due to rampup and increased coordination overhead. His completely serious response was that each new addition to the team should yield a 10x improvement to the velocity of the project. He refused to accept that teams often don't even scale linearly on a headcount/velocity basis. You don't need to refer to you copy of The Mythical Man Month to know that this is utter insanity.
