There is a big learning curve to meet the specific requirements of the contract/client. New staff should be prepared to invest some time early on to learn the specific needs/requests of the desired writing style. Management is clear on goals and timelines, which is good. No guessing about deadlines. Staff (writers/editors) absolutely needs to meet timelines to receive pay from the client and to in turn get paid themselves; this is understandable. Be prepared to work fast and accurately when work comes in. There are some ups and downs as far as busy and slow writing/editing periods and workflow, depending on the workload and time of year. I have learned a great deal as as an editor for this company and find relief in this work, as it is outside of my normal technical, science/health assessment work (full-time job). Work tends to be slower in very early spring/late winter. I like the management and found the written instructions on client expectations/writing style extremely helpful when I first dove into this work almost 2 years ago.
