Reflections on ego and hubris

Klick regularly clears out unfavorable reviews from Glassdoor.
1) Paid PR machine. Do not trust corporate awards. Low empathy environment.
2) IT staff quote: PMO is a graveyard. Quit before they get you.
3) Admin assists management team in editing employee timesheets to fit lay-off narratives. Incredibly dishonest.
4) You will make more friends leaving this place.

High performance work environment for people who want to do amazing work
|
My career has been on a rocket since I joined Klick. I have definitely done the best work of my life here. I'm motivated by challenge and growth, and Klick delivers. My salary has more than doubled in my time here, reflecting the impact I've had and the opportunities that have been created.
Klick is NOT a place for people to cruise. Our constant growth means constant change (and constant opportunity). If you need consistency and regularity, this may not be the best place for you. If you need dynamism and energy, you'll find it here.
It's true that the clients we serve help people who are sick and sometimes dying. The work we do to help minimize suffering and extend healthy life for patients and family members is deeply satisfying. We also work with clients who are actively preventing disease. Health is something we all have, and our work connects me to others in a way that selling IT or CPG never did.
Bottom line, if you want to do really good, really important work in a culture and environment that will support you and help you grow, consider Klick. If you just want a job, this may not be the place for you, and that's perfectly ok.

Culture + meaningful work
|
I've been at Klick for a couple of years and have seen the company grow by 200 plus employees. The culture is strong and what keeps most people motivated. The people are extremely talented. It's definitely a work hard play hard environment and if you want to progress, you need to give it 100%.

High Stress Work Environment

I worked here for just over 2 years as a PM. It was an incredibly stressful job. I was expected to work a ton of over time without any thanks. PMs have to deal with production team that hates you because you have to fulfill the tight deadlines promised by the Account Directors. The Account Directors hate you because they under sell the amount of time it takes to do the work so projects are frequently over budget. You can't win. I'm in a new role now with a lot less stress and more compensation. Avoid if you're a PM.

Bright, shiny perks that mask a depressingly poor work environment

Weaponized PR
Klick maintains a rabid focus on using PR as a first strike toolkit to pursue and sustain short and long-term goals. Common, insignificant events or achievements are blown up and repeatedly broadcast internally (for morale and loyalty) and externally (on publications they 'donate' significant sums of money to). A dedicated PR unit oversees and carefully curates stories to sell this specific image.
Culture
Klick prides itself on culture. In fact, a significant chunk of its internal PR is dedicated to projecting a culture that trumps anything you'd find in other agencies around the city.
The truth is far more mundane. The same politics, cliques, and interpersonal problems can be found here. The facade of caring and mentorship quickly dissipates under stress. 'Ordinary' folk immediately feel out of place amidst the 'always on' charade that never lets up.
C Suite
Klicks C suite and senior leadership team routinely broadcast a caring, benevolent attitude in the short term, and an uninterested, aloof one behind the curtains, They treat themselves to off sites in exotic locales, gift themselves luxury cars, and engage in interpersonal relationships with younger employees within the company. Awkward employees and clients are often mocked behind closed doors.
Of the company's founders, the celebrity CEO constantly embellishes (or has people embellish) on his intellect, importance, and achievements. A cursory examination of said achievements reveals a disappointingly ordinary person who uses money as a golden ticket to shock and awe in the absence of actual, tangible value. He is regularly mocked by his own senior leadership team.
Management
Klick runs lunch and learns that teach employees how to be better leaders. A vast majority of Klicks managers, however, rarely follow this advice.
The Work
You will sink hours of your life into peddling drugs to sick and dying demographics. Its about as exciting as you'd imagine.

Good place to work if you like big pharma
|
Loved the company, just didn't like to work. It was a struggle deciding to quit after a short time as there were many smart people and they treated their employees very well. I would however recommend this place for the work place culture and benefits. They're doing very well. You just have to like this type of work to survive.

Conflicting experience
|
PMO has a conflicting reputation - way more people have departed than stayed (warning: turnover rate), so you're bound to meet ex-PM's in every industry.
Conflicting because colleagues and culture is great. Middle management is a problem because recruitment headhunts people from sinking ships/failing companies.
Pay is decent for advertising but you'll be more than making up for it. Definition of work life integration.

Textbook example of how not to run an agency

Hopelessly trying to "get" digital. Politics rife and lots of entitled yet simple folk. Never encountered such stupidity in the workplace, esp the corp dev and "special ops" folk, who will probably try to counter this review with a fake one because that's how petty they are. It's the clients I feel bad for, they really get taken for a ride.
