I really did very good accomplishments with my R&D team. Our main job is to build statistical-based question answering system. Illegal behavior as detailed below: Kngine's CEO is the source of every problem in the company. He also was the CTO and wrote the Kngine's first engine. The code was closed and he was the only one who can see the code. He give tasks to his team (the engineering team) and he integrates this code by himself inside the engine. He always say that he do a confidential rocket-science like engine and he will beat IBM Watson :) . After along period of searching for funds, he made a decision of closing the company, but we refused and contacted the investors in Egypt (who are also board members) and they said that we will continue working and they bring us the code of the CEO's engine. My job at this moment is to lead the delivery process and I give each one of the R&D team one or more project to be his/her responsibility . I got the services project and the main pipeline project and shocked when I saw the code. This is why: 1- He uses Google search APIs and violates the terms of service (mainly he didn't mention that Kngine is powered by Google and he mixed results from Google, DuckDuckGo and other search engines). He also always mention that he beats Google! while he uses their search API :) . He always say that he has his own search engine and inverted index. 2- If he can't got an answer for the question, he uses Walfram Alpha APIs to retrieve the answer. the annoying thing is he always say that he beats Wolfram Alpha :) 3- He hard coded some question/answer pairs in his code using if else statements :) He even didn't use for example a database (I'm against the strict matching concept from the beginning). 4- Someone report that Kngine can't answer question like for example "howoldisobama", So he hard coded the pre-processing step for about 3 questions for example for the above question he said if you have this question, then override the question to be "how old is obama" and he didn't use an algorithm to do this! very very naive. 5- The code almost have no Machine Learning and/or NLP related code. 6- If he want to get some answer from IMDB, he did this on the fly by requesting IMDB search page (not an API nor using the dump) and invoke the "search" button and parse the results. This takes a lot of time. Also, this is illegal. By the way, no one from the team still work @ Kngine.
